The movie is tonally on point, the 70's vibe is felt and makes the film better. The music is great, the acting is top notch from everyone except for Kim Basinger who is terrible and seems like shes on a green screen acting to nothing but on a real set some how.

Crowe and Gosling both nail their roles just liked you'd hope. Angorie Rice as Goslings Daughter is fantastic. Its got that Shane Black flair and sense of humor. The directing is there, its kinda a modern 70's Lethal Weapon.

It might drag a tad in the middle and some moments my feel to convent. Plus the ending felt anti climax. Grabbing the reel and Crowe not killing the guy as a final beat felt underwhelming that should have lead us into one more beat I felt. Also they didn't really complete Goslings arc with his daughter or mention the house/wife again.

The movie is a blast at times, I had a lot of fun. Gosling falling over the ledge might be my favorite moment. OH and I like how the girl got killed by the hit man quite a bit.

In a way, it did feel incomplete... As if a franchise was planned. But, yeah, mostly bounces along with a agreeable leads and that sync up tonally with the proceedings. I shouldn't have revisited Kiss Kiss Bang Bang just before. That one has better chemistry, more interesting characters and diversions and a much more complete story. The daughter kind of stole the movie for me. Oh, I liked Blue Face a good deal too.

I should add, this one's incredibly fucking funny in spurts. That van hit and run and the protesters scene killed me.

Lots of fun! Chemistry works, great 70's style to it, action works, and overall a pretty damn good movie out of this and Money Monster(the two I have seen so far this summer movie season) this is the better one I have seen this summer and I look forward to see it again and will definitely buy the bluray combo pack in the fall for sure! I agree with all of you (and stuff lol)  Incredibly funny in so many places but it was uneven here and there.  I loved Gosling and thought Crowe was good too.  The daughter was the scene stealer, terrific job.  I didn't really understand why they needed to make a porno to expose the car industry but that was more of a MacGuffin anyway.

Very much a product from the mind of Shane Black, The Nice Guys is a deliriously enjoyable 70s detective romp that only occasionally hits a false note (there are some pacing issues). A marvelous cast runs with it too: this is Russell Crowe's best performance in years and Ryan Gosling should just do nothing but comedies for now on, but the real find is young Angourie Rice, a completely natural child actress who threatens to steal the movie from her much more seasoned costars. The film has great chemistry between Crowe and Gosling. The daughter was great in film. Some parts worked really well and other parts did not. I feel like the third act was the weakest part and the ending was kinda let down.

I thought the movie was great from the great opening scene that perfectly sets the tone till the very end. Shane Black seems to bring out the best in pre-teen actors which is nice since the daughter had a large role in the movie than one would expect. Anyways, I thought it was really consistently funny!

The Nice Guys is ridiculously fun. There's no other way to describe it. It's a solid two hours of non-stop enjoyment, even with a couple of flaws here and there. Before talking about those issues though, let's dwell for a bit on what makes this a truly brilliant summer blockbuster - or at least, what would make it so if audiences had embraced it. Instead, it will have to be happy with being an underseen gem.

The fun of The Nice Guys is due to several things, but the first that must be mentioned is its cast. Gosling and Crowe play their roles of Holland March and Jackson Healy perfectly, and it's hard to say who is funnier. Crowe is dryly humorous, and has the more fleshed-out character of the two. He clearly relishes the fun of the film. Gosling though plays a lovable idiot, and gives the film its biggest belly-laughs. However, Angourie Rice steals the show as Holly, Holland's daughter, and also manages to make the term "buddy cop" not really apply to this movie, as she is the most competent character in the film and a worthy sleuth, especially compared to the older men.

Black's direction and script (co-written with Anthony Bagarozzi) make The Nice Guys a winner, with a constantly propulsive plot jam-packed with jokes. The noir plotline keeps the audience on its toes and thankfully, the characters and the audience are typically on the same page. The 70s atmosphere is refreshingly not thrown into the audience's face, although a few awkward references to the modern era appear and stick out like a sore thumb compared to the other, more witty humor.

The action is surprisingly enthralling too, thanks to the humor being well-endowed within them. Nothing particularly stands out, but that's fine as this is a mystery first, comedy second, and action film last. The character work for all three main characters is wonderfully portrayed, as their arcs are well-defined and makes us root for them all the way through. The biggest issue the film has is a slow first half-hour, but the rest of the feature goes by so fast, this is easily forgivable. The Nice Guys triumphs as wonderfully entertaining filmmaking thanks to the tight script, Shane Black's amusing style, and astounding chemistry between Gosling, Crowe and Rice. Its poor performance at the box office is a true shame, and one that should be alleviated by every connoisseur of great popcorn cinema. A

Consistently funny and energetic. Gosling and Crowe have great buddy-cop chemistry.

Only scene I would have removed outright is the Gosling killer bee dream. It was funny but it did drag the pacing down in the middle act.

But then you don't get the hilarious bit of Gosling going for Crowe's non-existent ankle gun!

The Nice Guys is the type of movie that would piss off my parents.

It has both the smart violent humor that's Shane Black's trademark and the dumb sex jokes and slapstick that make up most of today's studio comedies. My parents loathe both.

Luckily, I love both kinds of humor so I was laughing throughout most of the movie. It's the funniest I've seen in the theater this year.

Is it a great film though? No. The plot is just this: two mismatched guys come together, they kick ass, they grow apart, then get back together again. It's cliche stuff. The main characters also don't have any depth besides being "the violent guy" and "the idiot who smokes". I was waiting for one of them to have tricked the other the entire time but that never happened.

The Nice Guys: Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have fantastic chemistry together and with a very funny script written by Shane Black, The Nice Guys is a fantastic film that deserves to be seen. A true buddy cop action comedy movie that captures the 70's vibe very well. I highly recommend seeing this movie in theaters. It deserves every dollar it gets and I would love to see a sequel.

I loved it, one of the most entertaining film I've seen this year (right next to Deadpool and Zootopia).  I can forgive a few a flaws because the film kept me engaged the whole way through.

It's hilarious and hits the right beats.  I did feel as if it could have used a bit more to wrap up, but that's forgivable because it never stopped being fun to watch.  It's sharp, well-made, and a hell of a lot of fun.

Really dug this. Crowe and Gosling crush it together and really bring out a certain humanity to their characters as a bright spot in a bleak, cynical world where the bad guys sometimes win. (An underlying theme to most of Black's work, really) Holly equally shines among them, and Rice does a great job with her unexpected swagger and brilliance.

That, and it's also super fun to watch. Just such a great time.

Solid if unspectacular. I wasn't really invested in the big mystery and its solution, which made the exposition-filled monologues and "Aha!" moments fall flat, and I think all the freedom afforded to Black here (in contrast with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which had to be made quickly and relatively cheaply) led to the film being a bit all over the place - he throws a LOT of character and plot beats, jokes and non sequiturs at the wall here, and not all of them stick. But Crowe, Gosling and Rice are all wonderful, there are a lot of good laughs, and I liked the gradual takedown of the "Kids these days" sentiment that Healy expresses in his first scene - from the boy covering the nude woman in the opening scene and Amelia and her friends actually doing something about what they uncovered to Holly revealing herself to be the most stable, smart and moral character in the movie, it's very nicely done. Damn shame we are pretty much guaranteed to never see these characters again.
