Piracy definitely has an effect, but not to the extent you are trying to make it out to.  If this was the case, then every Oscar contender who has their screener released every Holiday season would make jack shit in the box office.  The Revenant had a perfect copy out a few weeks before wide release and it still somehow pulls in $183m.

Let's not forget American Sniper did 350M.

Avatar was one of the most pirated movies.

You can even go back to 2014.  American Sniper had a dvd screener out as early as the 2nd week of December and it still grosses $350m. So is BKB saying Sniper should have made $500m w/o piracy?

That's exactly what he's saying. It's BKB.

I could buy TFA at me  local flee market two weeks after it came out. My roommate watched it online about a week after it came out. It was also on the Android box about a week after it came out. Piracy is here to stay but it is been here for a very long time. Sure films are affected by it but it's not like one film is affected more than another. If Civil War would have made 500 million because of piracy then Deathly Hallows Part 2 would have made 500 million as well and so on and so on.

It's gonna be a rough ride until Finding Dory comes out. Next weekend's pair of big brand sequels seem destined to come below expectations because, oh yeah, they're not really offering anything new on the surface either.

i hate to break it to you but Finding dory isnt offering anything new either. That might underperform as well.

1.2b WW is not happening for CW it seems. Not that it's a disappointment. OS is looking to finish ~30m behind IM3 (Was already 20m behind last week with a smaller weekend 84m vs 89m). 30m behind IM3 means a 777m OS. So 423m needed DOM to get 1.2b WW. DOM is looking safely below 420m. Probably 1.185-1.190b WW. Still huge.

Is it even making $750m OS at the rate it is dropping?

Don't think the title mattered, but reviews heralding feminist themes and pro gay-marriage bit may have turned some off who enjoyed the first film.

I kind of liked Neighbors and would have gone to see this if I hadn't read the reviews.   No idea why they felt the need to make an PC, SJW Tumblr version of the first film.

It's so sad that people think women and gays playing a major role in a movie is some kind of insult, crazy notion or only done to please sjws.

So glad that Civil War is such a massive disappointment. I hope it's a sign that people are getting sick of this superhero crap; and yes I hated BVS as well. Civil War was crap and it's failure at the box office reflects that.

I won't argue with you about your opinion but don't you think that superhero movies still seem like a very safe bet when it comes to producing a blockbuster ? You won't see a John carter or a Lone Ranger level of failure from a superhero movie, at least one featuring well known characters . Even failures like BvS and tasm 2 made serious money .

Here is a link about piracy. Ofcourse piracy is a problem for hollywood blockbusters, but the question is...how big is it? Not only hollywood suffers from piracy, think about the music business and the porn industry.

Before the internet and the easy free downloads the music business sold much and much more cd's and the admission for hollywood movies were bigger than. Only because of inflation and the much higher ticket prices now it's easier for hollywood blockbusters to reach the billion dollar mark.

Why can't Marvel loonies just accept that it did really well? lmao

Yeah....i agree. The high $1.1B WW for Captain America 3, won't be anything disappointing.

It's still a huge hit and it's still a $1B+WW-grosser. And as said before......not every new Marvel-film has to break records every time.

And you got a point....there's no need for the Marvelatics to freak out. Accept that the MCU-movies are and will still be box-office hits.
