RichWS
Why do people need to justify why a certain type of film doesn't excite them?

I mean the story is as thought provoking as the good dinausor.

filmlover
The "brainwashing" claims never fail to get a hearty chuckle.

goldenstate5
Wow for Dory! And um, for some other's posts... I mean, if you don't like Pixar films that's your jazz but maybe just admit to being in the minority rather than look down on other people?

The Futurist
But those animation movies are for kids people ! Star Wars is for REALZ, GROWN men, with families and responsibilities ! Edited June 23, 2016 by The Futurist
JohnnyGossamer
Looking like some quality crowd pleasing flicks are out now. Dory delivers on the usual Pixar charm, ID4 2 looks likely to deliver the expected disaster porn and Shallows looks likely to deliver the reliable cheap thrills of a shark attack movie. Dory is already breaking out. I expect ID4 2 and Shallows to perform well too.
fastclock
Well some things that might be thought provoking in Dory: Spoiler How do you treat/help someone with disabilities and to what extent ? (the fish couple that saw small Dory) How many years does it take to let go of a "dead" child? (Dory's parents) How do you measure parents' pride when their kid performs to their expectations? (Dory's parents at Dory finding them via shells) How do you treat your "acquired family" vs. your "actual lost family" - as in many adoption cases? (Dory towards Marlin/Nemo vs. her parents)

Planodisney
I think people are considering the "special needs" subtle theme, thought provoking. Not deep. Im not sure how you could define INSIDE OUT as anything other than deep. It just is. For some people it was too deep. Also, WALL-E had very thought provoking and deep themes. I don't think any fan of Pixar thinks everything Pixar does is thought provoking or meaningful, but sometimes they are, and in a really powerful and intelligent way. Thats like saying Illimination fans had been brainwashed into thinking Minions was extremely entertaining and funny!!! It wasn't, but DM fans ate it up. Im more of a classic Disney fan than Pixar and havent been on these boards long, so I wonder what is the origins of the Pixar hatred on these boards. Just curious. Is it just the classic case of attacking the big dog or what. Why are so many on here so annoyed by Pixar success and annoyed by people who find Pixar films generally really good. You can't really argue that films like WALL-E, Rattatouille, IO, and others have much more intelligent dialogue and themes than your typical Dreamworks or Illuminations offering. It's just a style preference. Nothing wrong with a silly slapstick style animated feature, if done well. Its great we have different styles for different tastes. Its incredible what happens on here EVERYTIME a Pixar film is released. Really strange. Edited June 23, 2016 by Planodisney
