It's $175M now. How is it adding another $200M to its box office. Regardless let's say it does. $375/2 is $187M so they'll have made $22M if we go off of the idea that the studio gets half the box office back. However $275M of that is coming from overseas territories and so Fox won't be getting a clear cut half from it. They're barely going to break even, if they even break even and that's not including the amount of money they included in marketing. I don't think it's "fine." It's not a fantastic four disaster but it's not good either.

Its going to be way over 200 mill after this weekend and still have a few openings OS :P:P:P

GLOBAL BOX OFFICE : TOP 12 INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

2014 vs 2015

2014

1. China : $4.8B

2. Japan : $2.0B

3. France : $1.8B

4. UK : $1.7B

5. India : 1.7B

6. South Korea  : $1.6B

7. Germany : $1.3B

8. Russia : $1.2B

9. Australia : $1.0B

10. Mexico : 0.9B

11. Brazil : $0.8B

12. Italy : $0.8B

2015

1. China : $6.8B

2. United Kingdom  : $1.9B

3. Japan : $1.8B

4. India : $1.6B

5. South Korea : 1.5B

6. France   : $1.4B

7. Germany : $1.3B

8. Australia : $0.9B

9. Mexico : $0.9B

10. Russia : 0.8B

11. Italy : $0.8B

12. Brazil : $0.7B

So, what do we learn? (+other datas below) :

-China's well ahead and widens the gap with the rest of the pack, adding the equivalent of Japan in one year!

-Russia really suffered, losing a third of its value in just one year, the exchange rates and an economic crisis have hit this market hard! From a pretty big market able to compete with Germany and France it went back to being a modest market...

-Other victims of exchange rates and economic crisis : Brazil, that underwent a slight decline and going back behind Italy. It resisted thanks to an impressive growth in local currency : +17%

-Unlike Russia and Brazil, Mexico didn't decrease : it stagnated, a strong growth in local currency offset the ER.

-Overall stagnation of the main European players these last few years : it's likely to stay that way given they're aging, have a slow GDP growth and a very slow population growth.

-Venezuela was 16th in 2014 and disappeared from the top 20 in 2015. The collapse of its local currency is the explanation and given the horrible economic crisis there it won't be back anytime soon, a shame.

-Indonesia is the emerging player to watch, passing from 20th to 16th in one year. It's likely to be the new big player of the 2020s with India.

People seem to be forgetting these day that theatrical grosses isn't the only thing studios rely on to make a movie profitable. There are even people calling X-Men Apoc a flop in its thread, a movie that's going to make close to 550m WW on a 178m budget, would you believe that? I guess people just love the terms "bomb" and "flop".

375M WW on a 165M budget. FOX is gonna be fine.

Not nearly enough and you know it. 2.0 to 2.5 the budget stopped being the rule years ago when studios started spending over $100 million on marketing and distribution.

It is enough. Movies also have TV, homevideo, VOD, etc. IDR will give a small profit in the end.

CI isn't going to be big OS but I was thinking at least 60m - maybe it can leg it to that point.

Comedy is a tougher sell OS, I'm sure Universal will be pleased how it's fared in the UK and Australia as they're the core English language market. Even at $60m total OS, Universal probably will still make a profit, just not as big as WB/NL
