So I think PETS needs to do ~9.5m on Thu to touch 50m this weekend in face of GB.

(9.5m is a 13.6% drop from Wed)

Illumination Entertainment/Universal’s The Secret Life of Pets is expected to hold on to No. 1 after earning $104.4M last weekend. Projections for weekend two range between $50M-$60M. Yesterday, Pets feasted on $10.5M at 4,370 venues bringing its week tally to $152.7M. Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory was second with $2.6M at 3,871, raising its four week running cume to $434.47M. This weekend, Dory should easily become the highest grossing animated film of all-time at the domestic box office, unseating DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 2 ($441.2M) which has owned the title for the last 12 years.

dory is not dropping 50%. last friday it did not increase at all. This weekend would be relatively normal summer friday increase.

I was talking about it's week-to-week Thursday number.

Dory at 2.6m puts it 100k over Toy Story 3 for the same Thursday. If it follows TS3 pace.....Dory will do 499m DOM.

10.5 is a very good number for PETS.

If it has FSS % similar to IO, it will get 58m (-44.4%) over the weekend.

If it has FSS % similar to MINIONS, will do 54.5m (-48%).

Middle of that is 56.25m (-46%)

$2.6 million for Dory seems really good, no? Could lead to $12-13 million weekend, and a good rebound.

I don't think this is a surprise at all.  The marketing for this started last year and it has been strong ever since.
