holiday season allows multiple films to succeed. Rogue One won't be close to as big as Force Awakens as well

True, but even so, I see Assassin's Creed struggling unless the reviews are unusually strong for its sub-genre. I just can't imagine that many mainstream moviegoers getting excited based upon the advertising thus far.

Daddy's Home had the Ferrell-Walberg combo and a moderately funny trailer/concept going for it.

Why Him? doesn't have much by comparison.

I actually think Assassin's Creed could beat it comfortably.

Audiences tend to gravitate towards easygoing/relatable comedies around the holidays, and Why Him? is the closest thing to it this year. It won't be as big as Daddy's Home but I wouldn't rule out a $100-110M total either.

I would, if only for the fact that - unlike Daddy's Home, which was inexplicably one of the most family-friendly PG-13s of recent memory - Why Him? will almost certainly be rated R.

Sisters made almost $90M despite contending against the freakin' Force Awakens. Something like that should be doable, at least.

Yes, but that movie actually looked funny and had two funny comediennes at the center of its ad campaign. I don't think the Cranston/Franco combo has the same drawing power as Fey/Poehler, especially given that they had a hit pairing (Baby Mama) acting as precedent for a solid performance.

It's amazing how badly they screwed up Resident Evil.  Maybe they didn't know this back then but people adore horror and they adore zombies. All Resident Evil had to be is a slow, tension filled horror walkthrough of a mansion or police station. That's all it had to be.  Instead we get some weird horror/action hybrid and I won't deny that it's been a successful franchise but it could have been so much more.

The Labor Day holiday is working in favor of Sony/Screen Gems/Studio’s 6’s Don’t Breathe which over three days will only fall -48% with an estimated $13.7M. That’s quite impressive for a horror title which typically tumble 60% in their second outings. Over four-days, the second movie by Fede Alvarez will inhale an estimated $16.7M for an 11-day run of $52.1M,

Next, Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad in its fifth weekend will fly past $300M by Monday thanks to a $9.8M FSS and $12.8M FSSM.

Outside of those two titles, it’s all single digits for a number of films in the top 20. Disney’s final DreamWorks live action release before the latter studio takes its business over to Universal,The Light Between Oceansis currently poised to draw $5M over three-days, and $6.2M in sixth place over four

20th Century Fox’s horror thriller Morgan may have cost a reported $6M, but it’s dying in 17th place with an estimated $1.86M three-day and $2.3M over four. Ouch.

CBS/Lionsgate’s Hell or High Water has finally cracked the top 10. The Jeff Bridges-Chris Pine-Ben Foster western will rake in $5.5M-$6M over four-days taking its cume through four weekends to $16M+.

Lionsgate/Pantelion’s Hispanic comedy No Manches Frida is making mucho money at 362 sites with a $3M FSS and a $3.9M FSSM. In recent years, the label has hit the sweet spot for Spanish-speaking families over this holiday frame.

Distributors are taking advantage of expanding some of their summer titles for a last hurrah this weekend, i.e. Sony’s Ghostbusters went back in 657 venues for 1,000-plus run ($1.18M four-day, $126.4M domestic). Disney’s Finding Nemo jumped 1,730 locations to 2,075 for an estimated $2.1M four-day and $482M stateside total. Atom Tickets partnered with Lionsgate to bring teen horror thriller Nerve back into 761 theaters total. Those using the Atoms app can buy Nerve tickets for $5. The Emma Roberts movie is looking at $732K over FSSM and a running cume of $37.7M.  Currently, based off of 30 movies, Labor Day weekend ticket sales look to total $115.8M over four days, $500K less than the $116.3M that 78 titles generated a year ago. So, this year’s final weekend of summer might eventually be flat with 2015.

We all know Lord Isaac was the real star of Ex Machina.

Image result for ex machina gif

Base on the end of this gif alone, I'd say Gleeson made a very good case for that 'real star of Ex Machina' title too.
