I've had some pretty spectacular club failures, no question, so rest assured I don't have the notion that i think I'm very good at this. But, if i want to base my predictions to a significant extent on my own biases and what I hope happens, so what? What's the worst that can happen if a club turns out to be way off -  someone like yourself will make a crack about it?

That's not really too much to worry about so I think I'll stick with my approach. Who knows, maybe I'll get better at it? :)

Well I find your clubs amusing at least! Carry on, we all need something to laugh at from time to time :)

They even tried with Adam Sandler rom-coms again. It didn't do that great considering expectations. Just have something that appeals to audiences, people like humor not love anymore. La La Land is a romantic Musical but that's hard to tell whether or not it's a hit.

It would help if they cast actors who are way more likeable than Adam Sandler.

Outside a date, why would someone watch a rom-com in a cinema instead on their home cinema /... system?

I think people underestimate this question.

Beside, me, female, literally hate rom-coms, you could offer to pay me $1000 and I still wont watch it.# (there might be very very few exceptions, if something special stands out extremely)

Hell, just watch it on your laptop, or even your phone. Rom-coms aren't something that has to be seen on the big screen. It's usually just a bunch of dialogue.

Going to movies is getting more and more expensive. The only movies that can succeed are must-see, hyped up, event films a la Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Fast & Furious, and just about every movie with a decent narrative, but with eye-popping visuals. This is the new normal

Wouldn't that apply to comedies in general not just romcoms. Cinema shouldn't just be blockbusters all the time, it should encompass all types of genres.

It should, yes, but the reality looks to be something else, to a degree IMHO.

Arthouse, kids, animated, big event, vast nature, fast races, big battles, strong visual reasons, seem to me to be the main reasons to still go to the cinemas. And excellent 3D.

Already told, why I prefer to watch certain films at home, but I often read and hear about people reducing or  even stopping to go to a cinema e.g. because co-audience being loud, texting during the film (bright screen), speaking with friends about the texting, kicking into the seat-rows, discussing thefilm or... whatever... People said, I paid but others do not respect my wish to view the film in peace or,...

At home with a great home cinema system you will at least understand the spoken text on the screen.

IMHO a certain percentage of co-audience and the technical posibilities at home (if not high quality even affordable) 'helped' to change the movie going patterns of at least a considerable % of the audience. And other reasons (including the flood of other possibilities to entertain yourself as an GA)

And it is more conveniamt, not to have to drive far, seek a parking place, need a baby-sitter, pay a lot, ....

Blockbusters and mainstream films will always attract people who don't know how to behave but I love the communal experience of seeing a film, I enjoy watching films at home but it's not the same. It's the same with theatre, watching a recorded performance is nothing compared to seeing it in person

In my experience that sadly counts also for non-blockbusters/non-mainstream films.

Let a film have a good WOM, it being an 'it' film (to have watched that film means seemingly to them 'I am cultural / above), and 'they' might come too.

The fact it dropped under 30% on Sunday is extremely impressive given that it definitely has nothing to do with spillover. A good omen for sure, and a sign it's not anywhere near as frontloaded as Potter was, or other fanbase driven films.

It started down over 50% on Friday compared to DH1, and ended on Sunday just 26% down.
