CoolioD1
there's a lot of correlation because I have to wonder like w/ bfca are they really looking deep down and voting for faves or do they just want to be known as a group people can use to help w/ oscar predictions. reminds me one critics group was bragging about how they were the only one to get best picture "right" when they awarded king's speech. that ain't what this shit should be about. I bet the BOFFIES could line up pretty well with the oscars if that's what we wanted to do.

Ugh.

Jake Gittes
Online Film Critics Society should take BFCA's place honestly. They consistently have the strongest overall picks for nominees and winners both. Hell in a good world they'd be handing out the actual Oscars. WrathOfHan
Not gonna lie, I'm getting some Boyhood vibes from La La Land in the sense it's the default frontrunner. If Scorsese wins Director and Manchester wins Screenplay, it's probably game over for La La Land. I can't see a scenario where it wins BP without winning one of those, and there aren't many other categories it can win. Or maybe Silence isn't that good and this is all baseless speculation *shrug*
Jake Gittes
I don't think LLL was ever winning Screenplay, not since Manchester got those raves at Sundance. Still think it has a pretty strong grip on Director and Picture, as well as some techs (Cinematography, PD, CD, Editing and Song are all plausible/achievable) and maybe Actress if everything goes right. It's true that we can look back on Boyhood and TSN as seemingly obvious winners but LLL really does have more going for it. Not exactly shocked NBR didn't go for it either. It, Manchester and Moonlight have a similar level of acclaim, and you'd expect some critics to simply like the latter two more and/or lean towards the independent underdog character dramas rather than the lavish Hollywood production they figure will almost certainly clean the big awards anyway. If it somehow continues to not win anything big anywhere for the first half of December I guess that might be a slight cause for alarm. CoolioD1
Yeah, la la land's old school hollywood grandeur kinda counteracts the comparison. The Artist was also just sorta the default winner through the critics awards. that was a year where people were just sorta waiting for another movie to jump in front and it never happened.
NCsoft
I honest don't think any of the late comers will make too much of a splash. Silence, Fences, Live by night, Hidden Figures etc... Glad to see Moonlight and Manchester doing good so far, in the end it's probably La La Land, Moonlight and Manchester.

Boyhood and La La Land are almost opposite in certain ways though, Boyhood only assumed frontrunner status because of its once in a few decade critics ravings and the fact that it was winning the majority of these critics awards at this point, people didn't see Birdman and Grand Budapest hotel prevailing until PGA handed its award to Birdman, which later proved to be more guild and academy friendly. La La Land on the other hand, is presumed to be the guild and academy friendly choice, thus the default frontrunner, whether it will do as well with critics remains to be seen (not so hot yet as of right now). stripe
Glad to see HR is gaining momentum. Manchester by the sea at NBR was quite surprising. Good signs for Silence, Hidden Figures and Patriot's day. Not very good for Fences. Arrival completely snubbed at Satellite is quite surprising.
CoolioD1
critics choice nominees http://variety.com/2016/film/in-contention/2016-critics-choice-movie-awards-nominations-1201930813/ hmmm. might rethink predicting jackie in best picture. didn't show up here or in the nbr top ten. might just be another carol in that regard. i swear awards bodies didn't used to hate auteurist female driven pictures this much! i dunno what happened!

filmlover
Hacksaw Ridge has been getting plenty of love these past few days. I'm wondering if Garfield will be nominated for it and not Silence, like when Leo was nominated for Blood Diamond instead of The Departed.
