Me = living nearer to the Alps than Munich = no really idea why those happen, something new learned (or something forgotten relearned).

Hmm I can remember in the past (a few decades back), news with snowed in in trains with people inside waiting days for getting out or have to go through a lot of snow... I think that was there. That was - I think - between SW 4 and SW 5 got released. If that is what you pointed out, they had e.g. huge problems with wind-created high portions. I can remember pictures with people on ladders, leaning on a snow... bank (?) 2 men high

Fingers crossed no one will have to go through that this winter.

Yes, the big catastrophe of 1978/79. That was a special case though, with a high-pressure system over Sweden and a low over western Germany that caused extreme differences in termperature. In some cases temperatures dropped 20° Celsius in just a few hours. The whole thing led to a huge storm that lived for days and didn't move. Funnily enough, the same thing happened again just six weeks later. It did feature the effect to some extend, but in most cases (here) the regular effect doesn't have anywhere near this outcome, just a regular snowy day with a surprising amount of snow for northern Germany.

I guess it leads to more snow around the great lakes due to the different weather system. Air mostly streams from west to east in Europe, and cold air from the north often gets blocked due to the existance of west-east running mountain chains like the Alps, which block the air from moving further to the south. North America doesn't really have any mountain-ranges that run west-east, only north-south, which means cold air can head far into the south because nothing gets in the way.

They've really outdone themselves this year, what a ride.

Their lineup was simply impeccable, both commercial AND critical success. I mean just look at the titles: R1, Dory, CW, TJB, Zoo, Moana and DS.

I wouldn't say it was impeccable, they had some pretty high profile bombs too; Alice through the Looking Glass ( 77m) The BFG (55m) the Finest Hours(27m), Pete's Dragon(76m)

But no studio is ever perfect.

Oh yeah, I got a free Rogue One poster when from the IMAX Theater I saw it at.  Definitely going to hang it up with my Star Wars stuff.

I saw R1 in AMC LiMax yesterday and didn't get a poster. I'm going back and complaining, LOL. I really like the middle one.

Can't wait for Sunday when they start giving these posters out at AMC Tysons!   I basically have to watch Rogue One 3 weeks in a row.

Yeah, they gave out a Dolby Cinema poster and now I need to go back to IMAX to get the rest. I have 2 might as well keep going. That first one is the best IMO.
