Overseas for R1 is kind of shit

Christmas Eve is a complete write off as far as movie going is concerned in Europe. Literally no one goes to the movies on the the 24th.

Here in Croatia, RO dropped 74% weekend to weekend because of it (Christmas day is also an utter disaster for movie going here), and it was the smallest drop of all the top movies.:ohmygod:

Moana dropped 76% lol

It will rebound nicely over the week.

OS:

Disney/Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story made off with a $47.1M three-day sophomore weekend at the international box office, lifting the overseas cume to $237.4M through Sunday.

That looks rather meh, but then many countries don't run films on Christmas so it's hard to make direct comparisons

I really hope it continues to pick up some steam and gets over 100m by the end. People are so quick to label something a huge flop, it would be nice if that was premature in this case.

We haven't gotten anything about OS yet. Really curious about that as well.

It opened with a great $4.6m in Russia.

And yes, has someone above just stated - OS reports will look terrible this weekend because the 24/25th are NOT movie going days in the rest of the world. We go through this every year, but this is the friendly reminder before people start assuming things that aren't right.

And the same should be said for the next weekend as well...

DT was also Rated R and with far better reviews and awards buzz which lead to 4 Oscar nominations

But this doesn't make 100M for Passengers impossible either.  It seems to have decent WoM amongst the GA, which may allow people who were previously turned off by bad reviews to check it out.

As an European I'm shocked that movies are making so much money during christmas. I thought the USA were more christian/family oriented.

wait, R1 did 45 on Saturday?

No, BOM made a mistake, I'll edit it as soon as I see they have 'repaired' it

Agree,

just in case some here might not know:

it is even 'worse' in several countries the cinemas are either closed down the complete day plus a half or close early (24 December) and open late at 25 December. Partly even by law.

= This OS weekend will be rather bad, as Christmas is during weekend...

It's legs post holidays will depend on how much it falls that first weekend of January and how much competition/theater drops will hurt it (the double billing of Live by Night and Patriots Day will definitely steal some of the adult audience away on that 4-day weekend).
