By 'this' they likely meant that NWH would've done 300M on Doctor Strange's release date, which actually seems a no-brainer.

Not really a no-brainer, it depends on how much of the potential audience was turned off by Covid conditions for NWH's OW and would be willing to go now.

2 hour runtime for this seems fine, a lot of the marvel films are overly long and bloated anyway so I welcome a leaner runtime.

This isn't about the film being too short or too long the question is (assuming this is legit because its still not proven) is does it successfully juggle everything that is being stuffed into this movie in that runtime or has the movie been heavily edited down

Nah, I think it would've done the same 805-810 but from a 300M opening.

II don’t think $300M would have happened though I do think it would have increased a bit. Maybe $270-280M.

As for the DOM total, I think that would be at least 10% less if not more. Holidays and a dead January and February helped it tremendously.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have finally reached a new deal to keep Spider-Man in the MCU, and it's considerably different than their last one. The past couple of weeks have been a trying time for Spider-Man fans, with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Homeovershadowed by the apparent end of the Marvel/Sony agreement. For a short time, it seemed as though the wall-crawler was fated to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe altogether.

Fortunately, and against all the odds, Marvel and Sony reached a new agreement that's keeping Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. But there's a key difference between the way Marvel and Sony have handled this new deal to their original one. The first agreement, which was signed up in 2015, was done pretty much out in the open. The official statements spelled out its implications in detail.

The original Spider-Man deal was initiated back in 2014, in the aftermath of the poor critical and box office reception of Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Marvel Studios approached Sony Pictures with an unprecedented offer to share Spider-Man. Sony would retain the rights in full, but Marvel would produce a new series of Spider-Man films on their behalf, with Kevin Feige serving as producer. The movies would be paid for and distributed by Sony - and, crucially, Sony would be the ones who profited from their success. Marvel would only receive 5 percent of the profits, but in return they would also be able to use this new version of the wall-crawler as a character in some of their own films. Sony initially rejected the offer, but a high-profile hack in late 2014 exposed behind-the-scenes confusion over just what to do with Spider-Man, and shareholders are believed to have forced the studio to return to the negotiating table in early 2015.

The original deal covered five films. Tom Holland's Spider-Man was introduced in Captain America: Civil War and then swung his way through a series of popular and well-received superhero blockbusters: Spider-Man: HomecomingAvengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Unfortunately, while Holland was personally signed up for another two movies, that seems to have been the end of the old deal between Marvel and Sony. A new agreement needed to be reached in order to keep Spider-Man in the MCU - and, for a while at least, that appeared to be a remote prospect.

The new deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures only covers two more films. There'll be Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, due in July 2021 and bringing an end to Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, and another mystery Marvel movie. Both of these will be produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. The terms of the agreement have changed a little, though; there are reports that Disney will now receive 25 percent of the profits from Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, but will be expected to pay roughly a quarter of the production costs as well.

Under the first deal even the then newly at Sony arriving ~ studio boss had no say at all in the MCU movies, under the new deal Marvel pays and gets 25%

There is also talks about the possibility of Holland‘s Spidey crossing over to Sony‘s Marvel movies, the wordings make it IMHO very clear that Holland‘s Spider Man belongs to the MCU

It‘s a special case, there are always exceptions from rules

Spider-Man belongs and ONLY belongs to Sony and yes that includes Tom Holland’s version who was cast by them in the first place. He works for Sony. Sony allowing Disney to use him in avengers is irrelevant.. I’ve already addressed why that doesn’t change anything in the posts below.

Believe what you want but my actual point is NWH’s success has little to do with what’s happening in the MCU. The characters from previous successful Sony Spider-Man movies is what made NWH a success. Outside of that if you look at disney/marvel movies in 2021 whether it’s eternals or Shang-chi they didn’t generate anything like the hype or success.

Some of you didn't get the message, so I'll say it one more time. We are no longer doing this "NWH isn't an MCU movie" stuff anymore. Straight up. It's gotten old, nothing's getting changed, so stop it. If you continue to bring up this argument again, you will see warning points.

Trailer had a very good reception at my JJK showing. Gotta say, i do feel the hype for this one. And mind you, i felt it sitting next to other germans in a german theater, so that does mean a lot.

If a German even blinks in the theater, that’s akin to a standing ovation.

My final predictions before tickets go on sale:

opening weekend $160.7m

domestic $410-430m

overseas $550m (without China, I don't think it would get green light there)

OS won't be as great as I thought 3 months ago. No China, no Russia, no Ukraine, no Belarus, and covid situation in South Korea. First Strange did around $336m overseas, The Winter Soldier did $339m OS-China two years earlier. Even with similiar jump to Civil War, Strange 2 would get around $564m os, but under today's conditions I would be surprised if Strange makes more than the last Bond (OS-C).

Did Belarus also get cut-off from western entertainment?

How much money did mcu movies typically do there?

Nothing significant. Captain Marvel did around 3.1 million in Ukraine which has a population 4.7x that of Belarus. Even NWH did about 8-9 million in Ukraine and I am guessing around 1-2 million in Belarus. Doctor Strange is likely to perform more like Captain Marvel than NWH. Bigger loss than Ukraine+Belarus will be China and Russia which is a potential 150-250 million loss.

PS: Mojo doesn't have any numbers for Belarus so I am just guessing and extrapolating.

Hey! I apologize I’ve been ignoring this thread because I don’t want to be spoiled for the movie. And I totally didn’t realize that we’re getting close to when tickets are going to be on sale. So in the next day or two I’ll put up the contests for the box office, pretty much exactly what I did for Spider-Man, so that people can have a week to predict previews before the tickets go on sale!

Will this finally be my chance to win? After underestimating NWH and getting 2nd place in the Batman contest, will Strange be the third time a charm lol?
