The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

So happy to see how well Annabelle is selling. I want them to continue to expand this universe. Hopefully they just don't sacrifice quality and see these movies as an easy, breezy sell.

Annabelle is pretty much sold out at both of my local theaters.

I want to add that a lot of these seats that were sold, weren't sold until yesterday/earlier today. So people weren't buying tickets to it early on around here but I'm assuming once word got out that it was good, that's when people started to buy them. Of course this is just an assumption on my part.

Annabelle - 26.1%

Dunkirk - 8.6%

Emoji - 5.5%

Dark Tower - 4.8%

Spider-Man - 4.5%

can we get one for Fandango Pulse?

Can I say it's really sad that Nut Job 2 couldn't even get above 4.5% of the total market on Movietickets.com...I mean, 4.5% of the market is a LOW number to hit...

I'm sorry I'm harping on this movie, but for as epic as WW's run was, this might be the reverse...4000+ theaters...shakin' my head...

Rough Night is coming back to a handful of theaters this weekend for 1-2 shows a day (no official theater count was given but it must be around 300). Not sure why when the movie was mostly ignored upon release earlier this summer.

Sony is almost definitely giving theaters cheap rental fees, and considering how light this weekend is going to be, it isn't too far fetched. I was just doing my Derby predictions, and FUCK this is going to be a weak weekend outside of Annabelle.

Do you think it will inflate Annabelle's OW or will it just be an expected OW + underwhelming numbers for everything else?

I'm predicting 27M for Annabelle, 10M for Dunkirk, and everything else under 10M. I think there's going to be a few tiers this weekend:

Tier 1 (25M+): Annabelle

Tier 2 (9-11M): Dunkirk and Nut Job

Tier 3 (6.5-7.3M): Dark Tower, Emoji, and GT

Tier 4 (4-5M): SMH, Kidnap, and AB

Tier 5 (3-3.5M): Glass Castle, Detroit, Apes, DM3

It's gonna be flat couple of weeks at the box office, for sure. Wouldn't surprise me if the dreaded Labor Day weekend comes below $70M altogether for the 4-day.

No one watched it when it first came out. Why would anyone want to watch it now?

Guess those theaters are gonna be swatting flies during those showings.

Do we even think Nut Job 2 gets to 15M?  Is that even too high?

I think that's about double what it gets...but high theaters and bored kids might help make it there...and free tickets, which might be coming later this weekend like it did for Detroit and Inconvenient Sequel last weekend...
