Even during Christmas? I thought 3.5x was easily achievable during Winter holidays.

Certainly not easy. Of the 4 $100M+ openers in December, only one is 3.5x (TFA at 3.78x).

We’re more realistically probably looking at 2.8-3.2x

1st Cinemark set for the weekend FSS...

Spidey gets 23 showings (1 3d, 22 2d - yeah 3d doesn't sell anymore) for a 5 screen equivalent.  The theater is starting for the 1st time since summer at 10am on Friday and showing til 11pm Friday...but no more...

This is the best supers set of 2021, but I think comes in 8-9 showings below initial Endgame set (have to go back and check).

As for other movies, the theater keeps WSS, Encanto, Ghostbusters, House of Gucci, and a foreign film on 1 screen each, has Eternals share 1 screen with Christmas with the Chosen (I'm amazed that made it - it probably means it won't drop til Dec 25).

One screen is unbooked - I'd expect another foreign film or another Spidey screen.

So, it's a very good clear out, but not an absolutely immense one.

So it's moving at a normal pace here. I agree with Charlie that I think something is off for Friday. Both Thursday and Saturday followed normal trends, why would Friday be the only one way below.

I keep thinking this can't get much higher for previews but tickets keep selling.  Now at 77.13% sold for previews!

I picked up Sat & Sun today for the first (and most likely only) time so disregard the new sales for those days.  Friday actually sold more yesterday than previews.  Shows were added to both days, more so for Friday though (+21).   Total sales for Santikos over the weekend is $678,572 (using adult prices.)

Tomorrow again NWH. But today for some variety:
Nightmare Alley, counted today at 11am EST for Friday, Dec 17:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 6 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
8 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
2 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 0 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 0 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
23 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 73 (9 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 112.

Comps: Last Night in Soho (4.2M OW) had on Tuesday for Friday 157 sold tickets,

Stillwater (5.2M OW) had on Wednesday for Friday 41 sold tickets

and The Last Duel (4.8M OW) had also on Wednesday for Friday 96 sold tickets.
Not too bad but also not really good so far. Probably it's not helping that the theaters will be so crowded this weekend.

Matrix 4, counted today at 11am EST for Wednesday, Dec 22 (8 days to go):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 190 (7 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
191 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
52 (5 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 34 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 46 (5 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
755 (6 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 607 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 1.875.

Up since my last count 7 days ago: 33%. I expected a little bit more to be honest.
Comps: TSS had 7 days before
714 sold tickets for Friday
and Dune had 13 days before 1.781 sold tickets for Friday.
Overall the
Matrix 4 presales are still very solid in my theaters and they also added some showtimes. But the lack of IMAX shows is - as mentioned in other reports - definitely a problem. Of its 1.875 sold tickets 1.451 are for an IMAX show.

2nd Cinemark also set and matched the exact showings of the 1st - 23.  Although this one has XD, so it's 9 PLF, 14 normal.

So, it's again 5 screens - above all supers this year, but below Endgame (I think this one may have set that at 35 showings b/c it was the one that went all in...and then kept going).  It is not starting Friday showings til 10:50am, which is still the earliest start since summer, but it does go to 11:20pm (latest showings since summer)...

As for everything else, Nightmare Alley does open here with 1 screen, and Encanto, WSS, Ghostbusters and a foreign film keep a screen with Eternals and Don't Look Up sharing one.

Yes, again there's one screen not booked, so it's gonna either head to another foreign film or Spidey.

Again, a very good clear out, but not an epic one...

Next week is looking to be when everything sees their theater counts slashed. Theaters around me are starting their schedules for Christmas Day and American Underdog/A Journal for Jordan/Licorice Pizza are all being placed in smaller auditoriums (all the big to medium-sized auditoriums are going to Spider-Man/Matrix/Sing/King's Man/West Side Story, unsurprising since those are are almost certain to be the daily top 5 throughout the holidays).

Variety

Tom Holland’s newest web-slinging adventure “Spider-Man: No Way Home” hits theaters on Friday and is poised to generate $150 million in its box office debut — a heroic feat even by pre-COVID standards. The film’s distributor Sony Pictures modestly predicts a three-day tally closer to $130 million, which would still rank as a huge win. But given pent-up demand and record pre-sales, some box office prognosticators are more bullish. They believe an opening weekend near $175 million could be within reach.

All of these numbers will likely be closer to the OD than the OW, even $175M…
