GREATER SACRAMENTO SELLOUT REPORT: T-1 day

Previews: 50/163 (+2/+7) [R1: 17/141 showings]

(Includes Double Feature & Opening Night Fan Event)

That 50 sellout count is a little misleading as it's including dinner theater joints that typically have less than 40 seats.  Then again, I've been finding some showings at regular ol' theaters with around 30 to 55 seats (typically ones that have recently remodeled with recliner seats) and they do kinda counteract the immense sized theaters that take forever to sellout so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(And, yes, I know I commented on this last year, but still worth pointing out)

2nd local has not posted their Friday schedule, but they did their final Thursday and did give Star Wars a big bump that day...

Right now, Star Wars has 15 showings (including one double feature, 2 special holy-hell-priced, 4 3d, and 8 2d) - this is the equivalent of 7.5 screens for the night...this matches the other local, although that local only had 1 special holy-hell-priced show and no double feature)...

I'm waiting on Friday to see if they, like my other local, don't wildly expand b/c then I'll know the Disney terms mattered (at least for areas where people usually buy tickets - these theaters, while not top-selling ones, don't usually struggle to sell tickets to shows, so they don't NEED Star Wars for the holidays, at least not on every screen)...

Okay, 2nd local (Regal) is going EVEN MORE IN on Thursday night...15 showings is now 19 showings!!  1 extra 3d and 3 extra 2d added for tonight...good sign b/c it's only 10am...no idea if they can find even more showings, but we are up to midnight (2d) and 12:15am (3d) start ones now...

1st local has ALSO gone EVEN MORE IN on Thursday night...it's now up to 17 showings, adding a 12:01am one...we'll see if there are even more late nights added as we go today...

AND for Friday, 1st local (Cinemark) has upped its Friday showings to 21 showings - it has put the extra 1/2 screen here (not booking another foreign - that either fell through or presales were just that good for TLJ), it has added post midnight showings, AND it has stolen a Thor showing already...we'll see how many more get stolen...

Love the hype and craziness around this!  I’m seeing it tonight and can’t wait!   Nothing will match TFA ow and dom run, but this should be fairly close and a $100m od and $215m-ish ow or so I think.

TLJ is so much easier to count on Fandango.  Just count the number of rows and the other movies that occasionally pop up.  Multiply rows by 7 subtract # of other movies.

TLJ:  275 (10:45am) 225 (12pm)

WW:  46 (10am), 125 (5pm)

SM: HC: 49avg (9am), 110 (12pm), 138( 1pm) 174 (3:50pm), 216 (5:20pm)

IT:  25 (8:20am) 41(9am) 102 (12:20pm) 140 (1pm) 186 (4:50pm)

Ragnarok:  103 (12:15) 112 (1:15pm), 145 (4pm) 175 (4:50)

Justice League:  45.2 (10am), 78 (12pm), 92 (1:30pm), 103 (3:30pm), 124 (4:15pm), 145 (5:30pm), 156 (7:45)

268 sets of tickets just now on Pulse (for 10:17 Pacific Time), plus or minus a bit due to human error on my end.  Will probably keep rising as 7pm approaches on the East Coast.

MT:

TLJ: 84.9

Coco: 2.8

Ferdinand: 1.7

Wonder: 0.9

TSoW: 0.8

People in the Huntsville, AL metro and surrounding areas are basically boycotting the 6:00PM Star Wars Fan event. None of those shows are sold out, despite being the first viewing.

$32 per ticket seems to be the problem. Also, the early 3D shows are still open while 2D shows from 7-10 are selling out.

Yes, I've seen a bit of resistance on the 25+ tickets as well here in Sacramento.  The 2D/3D split seems to be following the familiar pattern though.  There are 4x as many sellouts for 2D as 3D.  Guess we just don't really like 3D as much as 2D here. :)

==

FTR:

Double Feature:

Arden (2D) Sold Out

Palladio (2D):  31/173 seats left (first row + half of second row)

Laguna (3D) Non-reserved seating, so no idea [all but one of their non-premium showings are sold out, however]

Opening Night:

Arden (2D): Sold Out

Palladio (3D): 17/160 seats left (partial first and second row)

Roseville (2D): 47/369 seats left (first row, most of second row)

El Dorado (3D): 29/199 seats left (first row, half of second row)

Studio Movie Grill (3D): Sold Out

Woodland (2D): 21/246 (scattered throughout)

Esquire IMAX (2D): Sold Out

Davis (3D): non-reserved seating, a couple of later 2D shows are sold out

Laguna (3D): non-reserved seating, so no idea [all but one of their non-premium showings are sold out, however]

Greenback (2D): non-reserved seating, later 2D showings sold out, though not all

The one that really is the outlier is the following:

Natomas (3D): 101/397 ('main' area sold out, lots of seats in lower bowl and left asile)

I think it's a triple whammy on that last one.  3D showing for the first showing of the night, increased cost of premium 'event', plus that theater (for whatever reason) has dropped in popularity over the years.  Can't say for sure why, but it's been consistently lagging behind comparable theaters in town when it comes to sellouts.

I'll probably do one last Pulse check when I post the last sellout count in a couple of hours from now.
