The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Just did a quick glance through at my theater for Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World.

For some unknown reason by theater has given Incredibles 2 just 3 2D showtimes and 2 3D showtimes BUT I think this has more to do with it being a family film and thus didn't feel the need to add so many showtimes right away. I expect it to get quite a few more showtimes come Wednesday. Right now I'd probably put it at $140-$145M. But I'll have to see how the walk ups are for it.

Jurassic World currently has 5 2D showtimes and 5 3D showtimes. I don't expect this number to increase. Thats around what Deadpool 2 and Solo got. At the moment Jurassic World is actually trailing both of these movies in sales at my theater at the same point in time. I fully expect it to out do Solo though at my theater because Solo is a Star Wars movie. Whether it out does DP2 will really depend on whether it's a walk up movie. If it's not, I'm expecting a debut around $110-$115M. But again I'm gonna be watching this movie (along with I2) to see how much sales increase by as we get closer to release date which will give at least give me an idea of how presales heavy these movies are.

Oceans - 25.4%

Incredibles - 18.2%

Solo - 11%

Deadpool 2 8.8%

Hereditary 8.6%

Interesting to notice that Hereditary seems to be the only film in the top 5 that hasn't lost percent to Incredibles, makes me wonder if it's weekday holds can surprise. Incredibles continues to build distance from Solo and DP2, wondering how long it'll take to pass O8. Tuesday will likely help the movies already playing catch up to I2, but I think something really special is going to happen this weekend.

Those Fandango sales numbers seem good, perhaps even solid, for I2. However, the absence of Tag in that list does not bode well. Perhaps it sold 14 tickets and just missed?

My theater as of Monday 5:20 EST

Incredibles 2 1402 3366 31.31%

Comps:

153% of Thor: Ragnarok ($188.5M)

99% of Justice League ($93.7M)

393% of Coco ($199.5M)

1078% of Ferdinand ($144.5M)

916% of Paddington 2 ($100.8M)

413% of Peter Rabbit ($103.4M)

130% of Solo ($109.7M)

Wow. And there's still three days left, and its showtimes aren't finalized.

Also, Superfly only has its Wednesday shows up. Sold about 49 tickets on that day so far.

Are they comps at the same point in time or of the final presales for the other films?

Either way, the best comp on there is likely Thor, because this should have massive walkups like Marvel, but decent presales like Marvel as well.

If that's the final presales of Thor3, then holy shit when do we call $200m OW predictions??? (Unless your theatre is majorly over-performing)
