Wonder Woman has really stood out as the must-see good movie in a summer that's been mostly filled with trash product.

There was actually this very good indie flick called It Comes at Night that the GA was too casual to check out.

Oh, and Captain Underpants is the best superhero flick of the month.

WW is an absolute beast....almsot 90% increase. 26+M and another -ridiculous- club wins.

Not ridiculous...you keep comparing the movie to non-true-4-quadrant movies when it's a true 4 quadrant one...eventually, you all will learn, even if it takes to September, when she finally leaves 1st run theaters...

Can you explain why Batman and talking apes deserves to be taken so much more seriously than alien robots?

They're all silly if you think about it.

The original Planet of the Apes is effective dystopian sci-fi.  It actually was aimed at an adult audience.

And DC tried the grimdark approach three movies in a row and none of them got their material right.

And you can take something seriously and still realize what concept your movie is over.

Boo! A Madea Halloween was not serious enough! We need a grounded version of Madea!

You guys do realize that if you told people during the 1960's, Batman and Planet of the Apes would be grim tragedies that nerds felt should earn Oscars you would've been sent to a mental ward and lobotomized, right?

Not really. It's 3-day opening might still fail to beat the first day gross of the previous movie.

A normal Friday-Sunday OW would probably be in the very low 50s, a 50% drop from the previous movie's OW. What a disaster.

But it was the execution and approach that made Planet of the Apes biting social commentary.

On the surface talking apes taking over the planet is no less ridiculous than transforming aliens fighting for Earths energy resources.
