Just watched Baby Driver again and oh man this movie just hits on all cylinders.

I can't get over that score and action. The build up throughout the movie. Oh boy.

Edgar Wright is a god.

You're right sir.

DM3 will still make quite a bit more than Shrek 4 did and it has a much lower budget than that film, so Universal/Illumination surely won't be complaining. I do think Minions 2 is a bad idea. Take 5-6 years off after DM3 and then make DM4 with as much heart as the first film had and it will be huge again.

You know they won't take that advice. Illumination will have its 3-year turnaround as usual.

Although in 6 years they could bank on nostalgia for the franchise.

Sandler is an other one that had a really long staying power (without evolving much), Billy Madison/Happy Gilmore was in 95/96, Grown Ups was a giant success in 2013.

Eddy Murphy was an other one with a very long career, he was one of the biggest box office draw in the world for a long time (if he was not number one in that peak), from the early 80 to around 2000

Ferrell became a star with SNL + Old School (2003), around the early 2000's, about 15 year's yes.

Jim carey was at least at Ferrel level from 1994 to around 2009 or so, also 15 year's for him, and Dumb and Dumber to still made 169 million at the BO 20 year's after the first one.

Well Sandler's gone to Netflix, Jim Carrey hasn't been in any major releases as of late (the last film was a small role in The Bad Batch and he was absent from the marketing), and he was much bigger then either Ferrell or Sandler during his prime, and there was a time from the early to mid 90's when Eddie Murphy was considered box office poison for example. Really though it's more about the concept then it is the draw these days anyway.

lol Ferrell is not in Jim carrey's league. Jim Carrey's comedies transcend US. He's big OS too.   Nobody knows who will ferrell is OS

Not anymore, but during his prime he was the biggest comedy star around. Something like Liar Liar would be probably lucky to make say 130m these days, had it been released. The box office climate has changed so drastically.

DM3 also making less than Minions overseas. Billion isn't happening.
Though 900m is still on the cards and can still be the highest grossing of the summer worldwide

For some reason the Minions movie sold 900000+ tickets here while the Despicable Me movies sold both around 300000 tickets each. I think that might have happened in other countries as well. DM3 is opening more in line with DM2 here (which means it should sell around 50000-55000 tickets on OW instead of the 200000 tickets Minions sold).

who knows. i think he would be even bigger with the way the OS market has been expanding.  anyway, his movies always play on tv. and comedies have always had a harder time selling OS, but Carrey's always did well.

Ferrell's has had a longer and more impressive box office career though.

Not sure about that without even going how much on a different planet Murphy and Carrey peak were those 3 didn't had shorter career.

And Sandler run was ridiculous and was at least has long has Ferell current one. Will take your word for Murphy I was too young (and not american) at the time, but is peak was such giant and overall career so long even if we remove the hole in the middle.

Number of 100 million movie adjusted, lenght of their run:

Ferrel: 11 (10 without Lego movie), first in 2003 last in 2015, coming close to 15 year's

Sandler: 16 (14 without hotel Transylvanian), first 1998 last in 2013, 15 year's long and he was a star after Happy Gilmore home video/tv success released in 1996, so arguably 17 year's.

Carrey: 16, first in 1994 last in 2009, 15 year's

Murphy: 25 !! (20 without voice roles), first in 1982 last in 2007, 25 year's

It's almost like people have selective memory over how big Jim Carey and Adam Sandler were. Not just in North America but internationally. They pretty much ruled the comedy scene.

Will Ferell was never ever on their level.

The tomato giveth and the tomato taketh. Spider-Man, Apes, Dunkirk, Valerian, and Atomic Blonde will be blessed by it. If Emoji has 70% or higher, the tomato allowth possibly $150M domestic.
