Anyway you slice it, that is an ”Ouch!”-worthy drop for a film (SM:H) that had so much going for it (at least on paper). Whatever the reason, it’s clear that ”OMG, WOM is insane!" claims were premature. Like someone else mentioned, the word-of-mouth monster that some expected/predicted still hasn’t materialized.

WOM is fine. Thinking as many here predicted correctly it being the 6th Spidey feature in 15 years had an impact.

While Daisy and Emma will up there WW, Wondy will not place in Top 5 let alone Top 3. Still a magnificent feat.

Wondy might not make it worldwide, but Gal Gadot might. Its not out of the question for instance:

1. Last Jedi

2. Beauty & Beast

3. Justice League

And domestically

1. Last Jedi

2. Beauty & Beast

3. Wonder Woman or Justice League

What other movie can do 400+M to get WW out of the Top 3?Unless i'm forgetting a surefire tentpole then...JL and Thor?Thor i can't see getting much more than 350M and  JL could do it but...oh well...WW is still one of the leads.Hell i'd say she is co-lead along with Batman.

Worldwide? Wondy won't sniff the Top 5.

Last Jedi

Beauty and the Beast

F8

Despicable Me 3

Spidey Homecoming

Guardians Vol. 2

Justice League

Ragnarok may gross more worldwide as well.

Yeah and when you and I say this I know we're not talking about some unrealistic, it should have dropped 46% stuff. But if this movie had the word of mouth that has been claimed it shouldn't be dropping more than 55%. It's not like Apes opened with 65-70mil. Heck it didn't even tough 60mil.

SMH is one of those movies people are shocked it's actually good when they finally watch it on red box or home video.

But it's getting bashed on facebook and other non-comic book nerd forums, so I wouldn't say it's getting great WOM.

Spider-Man fans seem to bashing it like crazy on the interwebs.

There ,I fixed it for you.

WONDR gonna be #3 dom.

SW8 700-800, BATB 500+, WONDR 400+

JL is not getting there imo and there's nothing else which is looking at 300+. Nevermind 400+.

(And I didn't forget Thor3 :). Have that at 250.)

Of those three, the only one who should get credit is Gal Gadot.  She was the perfect WW and is very responsible for that film's success.

Watson is a bland nothing who can't act, and Ridley is a Keira Knightley knock-off.

Ooooo youre so edgy. Please give us more of your cutting edgy edginess.

That's fine but it matters not.  A great many people consider Spider-Man one of the best Superhero movies ever made. It had a huge box office, became a cultural phenomenon (merchandising, character awareness and popularity) and had tremendous word of mouth. Audiences cheered during the movie, clapped afterward and it was hard to get tickets in the 2nd and 3rd weekends of release.

So you may not care for it but it was a beloved and impactful film for far more moviegoers than those who who found it disappointing.  Most people like chocolate and find people who complain or constantly criticize it to just be weird and abnormal.  Thus most people don't make a point of openly and publicly denigrating things that seem to be universally loved by the general population.

It is fine to have a differing opinion but the more you point out to people how little your opinion matches the general population, the more it reduces the value of your opinions on all topics.  You just become that "weird, outlier" guy who doesn't realize he's not normal.

Plenty of people prefer SMH over the Raimi films.

It's not some extremely rare, thing, lol.

And how does an unpopular opinion reduce someone's credibility on everything else?

I'd say someone who likes everything that's popular has useless opinion because they don't challenge or scrutinize general tastes and beliefs

Spider man homecoming will not be in the top 5 worldwide either, nor guardians of the galaxy 2, let alone Thor.

Is it possible? Of course.

Will it? No.

But I anticipate Dunkirk to be Nolan's lowest opening since The Prestige but leg out like Batman Begins did. Anything $40M+ is a victory.

I can see Dunkirk opening to like 37M
