I've watched the entirety of The Tick as well. No shame. It's a good show.

Is there anything more annoying than a smoke detector running low on batteries, so it shouts “LOW BATTERY!” with a horrendous beep every half-hour?

 

It’s damn near impossible to narrow down which one it is.

take batteries out of half of them... find which half the low battery one in.. repeat until you find the culprit

Did you try to test the alarm with the test button, one would imagine the low battery one would sound weaker.

The real solution is to replace all the batteries of all the smoke detectors.
