You guys are missing the point of all of this, which is the future not the present. Saying “everything is fine in the now” is a recipe for disaster in Hollywood. That’s how franchises get into trouble. TLJs run should definitely serve as warning signs that Disney can’t just do whatever they want with SW and throw one out every year and green pastures forever. If they don’t handle the brand with more care and caution, we will have an SW bomb at the box office and possible genuine SW fatigue on the whole. And it may be way sooner than most here think.

we don't know what could happen in the future, making major changes could make it worse, why change if you are still making a lot of profit...

You arent recreating the MCU.  You’re not releasing 3 SW movies a year, you’re releasing 1 (and if Disney decides to cycle in Avatar now then only 0.66 or so)

I think its 4-Day OW will be much closer to 250m than the DOM total.  It’s kind of a wildcard but I have a hard time thinking over half of the people who saw RO won’t go see Solo.

I've been low on Solo for a long long time because I just think that a Solo spin off isn't a very good hook compared to say something on the scale of Rogue One. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

If the franchise actually starts to show signs of trouble (like actual signs) you give it a hiatus for a few years then start it back up.

Works for Batman, Superman and Spider-Man.

I do think franchise fatigue is a real possibility for all of these franchises.  There’s some extent of it already when you see no Marvel movie is going back up to TA numbers and no SW movie is going to touch TFA numbers.

But you don’t just halt your production because one of your movies grossed 600m instead of 700m lol.  Especially when the evidence doesn’t necessarily show that there’s trouble anymore than AoU spelled trouble for the MCU.

All of my friends and family are liberals or in the liberal-socialist spectrum, and I don't know anyone who likes it.  Dear lord this is not about the alt-right.

Do they go around the Internet voting the movie 1/10 too ?

That is 2 different conversation people are having one over the others, no one is saying people that do not like the new Star Wars movies are from the alt-right or hardcore star wars fans or DC fans getting around revenge for the BvS reception.....

But among people that go around the web taking time to vote and vote 1/10 ?

AOU made 93% of TA WW

SW8 Will make 66% Of TFA

It is a great result, but there is nothing to suggest that SW has found a floor for box office.

I don’t necessarily think it’s a great hook, and I think it’s bound to be smaller than RO.  But it’ll really depend on reception and how it’s marketed.

There’s nothing for audiences between IW and Solo, and then there’s nothing for family audiences between Solo and TI2/JW.   That’s more than enough room for Solo to make its money.

Youre talking about a fanbase that hated both AOTC and TPM but still showed up in droves for ROTS anyways.  It’ll be a hit.  It’s just a matter of will it be a 300m hit or 400m hit (or by some odd chance a 500m hit)

TA didn’t gross 2B WW.  TFA was also an odd anomaly as no SW movie before it was really a WW smash, they’ve always been big DOM movies.  RO and TLJ seem like course corrections.

I think Darth Vader is a wild X Factor in that case...

We do not know what the correction can do to?

Will Episode 9 even do 600 million? ( i think it will)

Who’s talking about halting production of anything? Well except maybe RJs trilogy, which has even gone into production. They should however reconsider the annual release plan, especially if Solo underperforms.

And AoU could have spelled trouble. The quality in phase 2 was a bit on the lazy side and youll notice the films following it didn’t get the kind of boost the ones following TA did. But they got things together for phase 3 and have delivered some of their highest quality work. Now practically every mcu release clears 300m.

That's grossly misleading and you know it.

Not only was Age of Ultron dropping from a movie that was much smaller than TFA, but it also had the benefit of of China having exploded between the release of The Avengers and its own release, with South Korea taking a nice development as well. Both TFA and TLJ, on the other hand, came out in a very similar market situation.

Disney does not run on feelings, they run on profit margins,  and so far they probably aren't seeing an issue, not suggesting that won't ever happen, but if solo does super well I don't see any plan changes.

We will see about that. Transformers: Last Knight grossed about 30% of TF2 domestic. That would be about $280m in the case of Star Wars when you use 30% of TFA. Star Wars is still in great shape. I am curious to see how those Rian Johnson movies go.

That is the point, there is no massive growing markets to slow down the diminishing returns.

MCU has done a great job in making Superhero Films popular across most of the world, while SW remains very popular in most developed markets.

There is no real growth, just decline on the horizon.

my prediction is as long as it's all new characters it will be easier for folks to enjoy it, they may make them more budget friendly as well.

I’m gonna be honest, the Tuesday was already meh for TLJ in the first place, but I’m not sure how useful the rest of the week’s dailies are gonna be with Grayson affecting everything. Let’s see the rest of the top 10 and check the trends
