2018 100M Films - 33 down, 3 to go! (Big update)

Recommended Posts

Currently 31 on Box Office Mojo. Mary Poppins will be confirmed when estimates for NYE come out, Bumblebee should also get very close to $100M. I think 33 is the limit this year. Don't think Vice or The Mule will make it and those are the only ones even close enough to being able to reach it. Still an amazing, record year at the box office.

I think Christopher Robin might still get the "Rampage" treatment in a few weeks:)...and I think Mule is definitely more likely than not to hit $100M at this point...so that gets to a tie at 35...not bad for the year (and wouldn't it be a holiday miracle if Peter Jackson's documentary, They Shall Not Grow Old, somehow defies expectations and soars this January - its limited showings were spectacular sell outs everywhere - now, was that "it" or will WOM have grown over a few weeks and set up a big surprise?:)

True, all depends on how The Mule holds. I wouldn't count on Christopher Robin but They Shall Never Grow Old could definitely make it if it pops off in actual release.

If Christopher Robin gets bumped to 100, 2018 will tie the record (35) with 2013.

Beating it sounds like it ain't happening, tho. I've heard some people championing They Shall Not Grow Old, but I doubt that makes anything substantial.

Disney already attempted to fudge Christopher Robin. They failed.

They Shall Not Grow Old is exceptional but BO wise even though it's done very well so far, 100M would be impossible. There is no possible way for ww1 doc to do 100M. The only doc to do 100M was Fahrenheit 9/11.

Rampage stopped at 99M and got bumped to 100 later. That could happen to CR too, I dunno.

It actually happened back when the Meg opened - one of the trades or deadline reported on it, but WB didn't report the gross until they updated their films at the end of the year.

WB and UNI are the 2 most frequent studios who update total grosses for films closed earlier in the year. Normally its not such a big swing, but then again, the Meg was larger than expected.
