Figured they were exclusively talking A24 horror. But, yeah, I definitely thought about Green Room as well. It's right there at or near the top of my A24 list and it's walks the line of horror/suspense. Under The Skin, The Rover, Enemy, Mississippi Grind, Remember, The Lobster, Good Time as well. And, gotta say, Under the Silver Lake looks like the kind of Coens/Lynch mashup that'll hit the spot for me too. Very much looking forward to that one as well. The Unpredictable, violent nazi’s are terrifying. I’d class it as horror.
rjones1325
Ari Aster may have a thing for disturbing dysfunctional families and his first feature, "Hereditary" proves that. If you've seen his short "The Strange Thing About the Johnsons" then you're ready for "Hereditary". The cast delivers decent performances, but “Hereditary” primarily lies on the shoulders of Toni Collette's performance. She is a powerhouse in this movie to an extent that I will start my campaign for her receiving a Best Actress nomination in 3, 2, NOW! A24 does a great job with marketing their features, but I feel like somehow some elements of the film should’ve been in the trailer. In the beginning of the second act, a huge shift occurs that turns the overall story into an entirely different movie. If they revealed one of the twists that occurs in the second act to market the film, then you would have a better idea of what the story is about. The shift adds an emotional depth to the story and furthers the plot and the insanity of the supernatural elements Annie experiences.FULL REVIEW: https://rendyreviews.com/movies//hereditary-review Edited June 10, 2018 by rjones1325

I don't consider Green Room to be horror, more of a thriller. But if I did it'd fall in the middle for me. Something about that movie rubbed me the wrong way, just a really ugly film. Felt like I needed a shower afterwards.
tonytr87
There is definitely a problem with modern auds where they don't want to take horror films seriously. So if you've got a very serious type of horror movie these people laugh at it. I don't get it, but that's what it is

Laughing at it takes away the responsibility to actually contemplate some of the gravitas to a few of the scenes.

It completely ruined It Follows for me when I saw it in the theater. I liked it more when I saw it at home whenever it showed on cable, but still, since I knew everything that was coming, it couldn't hit whatever level it could have. yeah some horror films aren't comedic like Final Destinations and others where you can laugh at the "deaths" and certain parts. So it's a shame that people go just to ruin the film for others when it comes to atmospheric horror for instance

The only good horror movie I saw in theaters where the crowd enhanced the experience was IT, maybe it would have in Get Out as well but I saw that at home originally. I’m intentionally waiting to see AQP for example at home because I figured the crowd would ruin it.
