Alot of popular and successful superhero movies make the most money because they're fun.

But yes, BP and WW struck a chord with audiences on a much deeper level which doubles or triples their domestic take.

Plus they appealed to demographics that are often overlooked. They also happen to be considered and are very good films too.

Black Panther's box office is amazing. A year ago, I wouldn't have even guessed it would have outgrossed Civil War. Happy to be proven wrong.

Since when does quality equate box office?

Usually when a film doesn't have any real name recognition to drive it forward if it is only mediocre.

It might do it, but the film is mediocre and don't see $100m in it.

I think many here predicted it to be a massive breakout. But not a such a GIGANTIC breakout.

Correct, many of us on here had it $185m+ for the 4 day but going to $240m+ is another level.

People expected it to be huge, but it vaulted into the cultural phenomenon level.

Marketing from here on out for IW should be Black Panther front and center. Disney is stupid if they don't put him as the new leader of the Avengers when RDJ and Chris Evan's leave. This would make BANK.... My proposal.

What do you all think?

New Team

Just one lady?

How about Wasp? Plus get Monica Rambeau in there instead of not-Spidey...

IW is a cultural event, just of a different sort.  For a number of reasons this is not just an Avengers sequel, there's more to it and more going on than just that.

IW is not a cultural event. IW may be an orgiastic dream for comic book fan boys; but it is not tapping into the cultural zeitgeist like BP. There will be no articles written about IW that are anything close to this one and BP.

Is Rampage really expected to perform great?

Who doesn't want to see a movie in which Dwayne Johnson plays a primatologist who yells "GEOOOORRRRGGGEEE!!" to his pet gorilla now blown up to the size of King Kong destroying things?

To be honest most of the $180M+ OW/$200M+ 4 day/yuge Predicts were after presales. Before some were thinking around Homecoming some as low as Ant Man numbers. Panther is a breakout.

The new Avengers roster should be BP, CM, Wasp, Ant-Man, Black Widow (because we all know that she will be getting her long-overdue film), The Falcon, and Thor (there's no way that post-Ragnarok, they let go of him)...

Three women and two characters of color (for representation and maximum audience relatibility) and two residuals from the original movie Avengers for insurance...plus the new box office king of solo superheroes (BP)

New Avengers:

Black Panther = Iron Man

Captain Marvel = Captain America

Doctor Strange = Thor

Ant Man = Hulk

Black Widow stays

Maybe Thor and Hulk too.

Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, and Winter Solider are West Coast Avengers

Also Black Panther is in the same fictional universe as the rest of Marvel, definitely not an original film for me. Fresh film sure, with a new take on Marvel comic book films, but not original.

Seeing as they are all based upon a pre-existing property, none of them are original movies.

Why no Sam Wilson as the new Captain America?

Umm....might wanna check out the BP threads...I predicted this to do $200+ on opening weekend 2-3 months ago.

I'm talking about recent projections from the trades based on hard data, not predictions based on gut feelings from fanboys months ago.
