Weekend Thread: Weekend estimates pg 38...BP 41.14....WIT 33.31

Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time — based on Madeleine L'Engle's beloved book — is off to a troubled start at the North American box office, where it looks to lose the weekend crown to fellow Disney title Black Panther.

Hobbled by poor reviews and a B CinemaScore, the fantasy-adventure looks to gross $11 million-plus on Friday for a weekend debut in the $35 million range. (Friday's gross includes $1.3 million in Thursday previews.)

Now in its fourth weekend, Ryan Coogler's Black Panther isn't far behind A Wrinkle in Time on Friday with $10 million-plus for a weekend haul of $40 million more. And sometime on Saturday, the history-making tentptole will bound past the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

11M would be a 9.7-9.8M true Friday, the same ballpark as John Carter, Tomorrowland, Prince of Persia, Lone Ranger. A B Cinemascore is also the same as those above movies as well (John Carter and Lone Ranger were B+)

Red Sparrow is coming in for a potential sub-40 drop :ohmygod:

Meanwhile, Fox's Red Sparrow, starring Jennifer Lawrence, which opened to $16.9 million last weekend, could drop by more than 50 percent during its second weekend. Its estimated Friday take of around $2 to $3 million could contribute to a weekend tally of just under $8 million.

Really enjoyed THOROUGHBREDS.  It wont make money but who cares when mediocrity like BLACK PANTHER makes all the money.

The two lead actresses are phenomenal.

Sure, blame the black guy.

Was kinda surprised how well Wrinkle did a thing my theatre. Didn't expect much at all but it did our equivalent of 11M

Hurricane did decently as well, 1.4M. Strangers lol fuckin bombed 1.1M

I saw Wrinkle as well, and I really wanted it to be at least okay so that the trolls couldn't be fed. But woof it was awful. Worse than Pan IMO
