We need Sunday #s to clear up this phot finish.

This won’t be a race at all. If anything, the gap will just become wider. Mamma Mia’s Sunday hold is looking generous at 18% while Equalizer’s 25% has a decent chance at improving a bit.

Not to be anal, but this isn't really a photo finish.  There's more than a million dollars difference.

This is a photo finish:

2 1 Minority Report Fox $21,590,412 -39.5% 3,001 - $7,194 $73,424,800 $102 2
3 2 Lilo & Stitch BV $21,515,886 -39.0% 3,222 +31 $6,677 $77,086,002 $80 2

Dont forget that MM2 had the advantage of having premium formats and still ended up making less.

HA!

There was a roughly equal split in PLFs between the two movies IMO. Equalizer probably had a slight advantage because it's been announced and booked for IMAX longer

Actually I should point out that while that was close, it was 2nd and 3rd spot... this is 1st and 2nd.....

probably better referencing this chart :

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/closecalls.htm?page=opening&p=.htm

some pretty close calls there (between 1st and 2nd) ~ the highest from > 2000 releases being this one from 2010 :P

only 145k separated these 2.... so I agree with what you are saying there B but there are better examples for a more apples to apples comparison.

TW LW Title (click to view) Studio Weekend Gross % Change Theater Count / Change Average Total Gross Budget* Week #
1 N Takers SGem $20,512,304 - 2,206 - $9,298 $20,512,304 $32 1
2 N The Last Exorcism LGF $20,366,613 - 2,874 - $7,087 $20,366,613 $1.8 1

for reference the closest top 2 finish was all the way back in 1993 when these 2 topped the charts....   a mere 6k ;) …..

TW LW Title (click to view) Studio Weekend Gross % Change Theater Count / Change Average Total Gross Budget* Week #
1 N CB4 Uni. $6,122,450 - 1,204 - $5,085 $6,122,450 - 1
2 N Fire in the Sky Par. $6,116,484 - 1,422 - $4,301 $6,116,484 - 1

My guess is that the script was written without her, they left an extra space for her to pop up if they managed to agree to something.

Meryl Streep ends up doing 2 days work and gets PAID, and gets an extra bag for letting Universal use her face in the promos.

I’m still pissed at the film Suffragette which Meryl was marketed all the posters but she was only in it for five minutes.

My local theatre looked like a Friday during Christmas holidays last night.  There's not one massive blockbuster out right now but there's plenty of choice for everyone.

She’s also the focus on the Blu-ray cover.
