If Gwyneth Paltrow won the Oscar for Shakespeare In love, and Sharon Stone was nominated for one for Casino i think Jennifer Lopez can do it.

A Best picture winner movie pushed by a giant budget campaign from a prime Weinstein and a Universal studio Scorsese one are quite unexpected comparison for the Hustler distributed by STX (not sure they ever won an Oscar or got an acting nomination in their history).

Molly's Game deserved more recognition. it didn't do much at the Oscars other than a screenplay nom for Sorkin but Jessica Chastain got a golden globe nomination.

edit: STX also got another acting golden globe nomination for Hailee Steinfeld in The Edge of Seventeen.

STX made the movie at a net $20M production cost in 29 days to accommodate Lopez’s schedule as she squeezed in the shoot prior to rehearsing for a concert tour. Helping to drive costs down were STX’s foreign sales output deals with their partners, which are estimated at $10M (the distributor handled distribution in the U.S. and the UK). Lopez bet on herself here, taking less pay upfront in exchange for a bigger back-end, which is estimated at $8M. STX spent $38M in P&A at specific female demographics. They responded, spending close to $105M in domestic ticket sales and $52.6M abroad. Hustlers became STX’s second highest-grossing movie worldwide at $157.5M, trailing only Bad Moms ($183.9M). The film poured off a net profit of $47M, a much needed hit for the mini-major.

Watched this last night, it's pretty good! Can't really complain about much, other than it's unable to maintain its level of energy throughout the whole runtime. Lopez is great. Felt like Molly's Game-lite, which is still pretty good praise.
