Alright Deadline, hit us with those early Friday projections

(btw just like to note every week how they almost never change their weekend projections based off Friday's numbers) They could come in and say "Keanu Reeves' Replicas is on track to earn 600k today, with projections leading to a 4M weekend" or "The Upside is clocking in at around 7M for Friday, with projections at 10-14M for the weekend".

It feels like The Upside will over-perform massively.

Even if all that does is make people watch the (awesome) French version, I would be so happy for that. Seeing it at 3:20 today so I'm looking forward to comparing the two

Replicas is about to be a huge L for Entertainment Studios. Only 47 Meters Down and Hostiles have remotely worked for them.

Pretty good for The Upside though it's over budget. Happy for Bryan Cranston but this should not have been $35m budgeted movie. Should do fine though

Looking at the sales at Disney Springs....

the 3:30 Upside sold at least 100 seats

the 4:45 Dogs Way Home is sitting at 44 sold.

they are really going to regret putting DWH in the huge 583 seat auditorium and only giving Upside a 160 seater.

looking ahead, 7:00 Upside, 114 sold, 7:45 DWH, 68 sold.

and that’s at the Disney World theater where family films have an advantage.

STXfilms/Lantern’s The Upside is currently in a too-close-to call weekend race with the fourth weekend of Warner Bros.’ Aquaman, $17.9M to $17.8M. For certain today is that the crowd-pleasing Kevin Hart-Bryan Cranston dramedy will beat DC’s fish man, $6.5M to $5M. A No. 1 win for STX which has typically played the middle of the box office chart would be spectacular.

‘Upside’ Could Upset ‘Aquaman’ For Weekend Win With Near $18M- Friday Midday Update

Quote

2nd Update: STXfilms/Lantern’s The Upside is currently in a too-close-to call weekend race with the fourth weekend of Warner Bros.’ Aquaman, $17.9M to $17.8M. For certain today is that the crowd-pleasing Kevin Hart-Bryan Cranston dramedy will beat DC’s fish man, $6.5M to $5M. A No. 1 win for STX which has typically played the middle of the box office chart would be spectacular.

Anything over $17M would rank as STX’s second best opening of all-time behind July 2016’s Bad Moms which opened to $23.8M. We hear that Upside was a distribution deal for STX; they didn’t acquire full-on rights form Lantern who absorbed the movie as part of their takeover the Weinstein Co. assets. Hence STX has limited skin in the game with potent upside. Reportedly TWC spent around $37.5M to make Upside which was directed by Neil Burger and also stars Golden Globe Destroyer actress nominee Nicole Kidman.

If Aquaman rebounds on Saturday, Warners will have bragging rights that they’ve held No. 1 four weeks straight on one film. The last time that occurred was with 2008’s The Dark Knight. Count on Aquaman crossing $1 billion either tomorrow or Sunday at the global B.O.

Sony/Bona Film’s A Dog’s Way Home will find his way to third place with an estimated $3.5M today and a $11M-to-$13M opening. Sony will also have fourth place with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s fifth weekend earning $7.5M-$9.5M, for a running total on the high end of $148.2M.

Focus Features’ On the Basis of Sex –remarkably without any awards season heat–jumps to 5th place with $6M-$8M in weekend 3 and a Friday around $2.5m.

Keanu Reeves’ sci-fi drama Replicas is powerless with $1.5M today and $4M over the weekend per industry sources.

Deadline forgot MPR

Yeah, I'd be surprised with the drop predicted for Spidey that MPR would drop enough to go under it, since it had a $2.7M lead last weekend...if it does, that would be a pretty awful drop for MPR...
