Napoleon
I think this is a great deal. A lot of movies don't make much money at the box office after day 17. If by going to VOD after 3 weekends instead of 3 months increases the revenue from VOD significantly, studios and theaters will both make more money this way. I'm assuming people who still go see low and mid budget films at the theater won't care if they may be up for rental at home in a few days. That would be extremely surprising for it to not be the case for a significant part of them (those with kids for who it is a somewhat big deals to go out), and specially for those for who it mean it may be up for free on their android box in a few days. For a certain type of those low and mid budget, like say "teen" horror, the only concern would be piracy because I really doubt they would pay $20 for a rental yes.

Sure, but wouldn’t it decrease what they make in those three weekends as people know they can get it for less within days? the studios make more money from box office than VOD per person etc, and they do not want people getting into the habit of not bothering going to the place that’s their biggest cash cow. i can see where you’re coming from, but from a business point of view for both exhibitor and studio it just looks like they’re throwing money away to me.

Yandereprime101189
It's funny that they're basically up in arms with this concept which will basically boil down to Universal just dumping box office bombs on digital faster. Otherwise, the big budget movies will be treated the same as they always had, like the new Jurassic World releasing in June and hitting digital and Blu in September or October. CloneWars
Too bad, we can't get digital rental numbers but seeing Greatest Showman constantly at number one makes me think it was a LOT more successful than we fully realize.

It's become the Frozen of live-action musicals. I consistently hear songs from it on speakers while out doing stuff (just heard the P!nk cover of "A Million Dreams" in Target the other day). Napoleon
Interesting. So movies will stay in theaters even if they decide to send it to PVOD after 17 days. I think this model will work.
