I thought wakanda forever won Oscars in the end, didn't it?

You could atleast use SpiderByte's Bassett argument, even he knows literally no one cares about a costume design oscar

the batman had the better rt, average rt, and metacritic

yall really don't need to do this shit, marvel's already won the war, take a chill pill and stay off the threads if you can't avoid derailing it. don't even care for dc or the film myself and I liked maybe 2 films in the whole dceu, but this thing's just exhausting.

Well, badly reviewed or not, Flash finally is seeing the light of the day. That means zero posts / threads / topics with the same "is it gonna be shelved, is it getting cancelled" questions.

We still have Ezra's future to speculate, but actors and movies are different entities. Even if the movie is good, I hope Ezra is fired ( if he isn't already ). No studio wants to work with actors that can't' be interviewed before a movie's release. Sure, this is more Ezra's fault ( he's a violent criminal ), but I think WB / DC can't make the same mistakes now that Gunn is part of the team.

I just want the movie to be well reviewed by critics and audiences. This should come first. Money is good, but DC needs to build its reputation back from the ashes. Quality first and money later as consequence. Don't panic if the movie makes less money than expected, WB. This is your fault, WB. You burned way too many bridges with audiences. Don't take them for granted.

In the end, if Flash is badly reviewed ( it could happen ), it's not the end of the world. Any sane and reasonable person will probably like it or not , based on their own merits. People have different metrics regarding viewing movies.

All in all, Gunn will probably have a very hard work to do, in order to regain audience's trust. He has no easy job, but he accepted what it looks // looked like impossible. Gunn is a very competent filmmaker and he had a great run in the MCU. His first movie in the DCEU was very good and it shows he knows and respects comics.

Now I'm going to be that guy. Yeah, "that guy" that says that enjoying a movie by your own is better than using critics as a metric. I know you'll probably tell me that I would be using critics as a metric if The Flash got 99% on RT. In a way, you're probably right because I'm biased towards DC. I may be biased, but I'm definitely not blind to DC' s mistakes. This could be badly reviewed by critics and loved by audiences just like tons of movies. However, I don't want this movie to be considered "critic proof". I want most of people from both parties liking it.

I'm not overly invested in box office tracking. Look at Spider-verse. They were off $40 million from their high-end predictions. In this post pandemic world, I don't think most people feel any great urgency to buy tickets early for much of anything because theaters just don't fill up like they use to for most movies. Sure there are exceptions, but the Flash has been in the public for literally years. It was originally supposed to come out last year and then all of this nonsense happened with its lead. Its not going to be an event film the way they wanted it to be. But it has allot of people curious. I have zero doubt it will pull in descent money and most likely make over $100 million just on Michael Keaton alone. He is the real draw here. The second weekend will tell us what the public thought about it. I will be happy to go see it and decide for myself. Keaton in the cowl again is very cool.

James Gunn shouldn't have hyped up this so much. It set expectations too high

He has to. Depending on how The Flash is reviewed, Gunn's work will be harder or a little easier. Flash getting a rotten score will put a huge pressure on Gunn's Superman and a huge cloud on the movies that are being planned. I think it isn't fair, but this is what it is: business.

Gunn has to show confidence and he has to bet. He didn't work in the Flash, BUT Gunn is now the responsible for the new DCU.

Wouldn't it be the exact opposite, since it'd be easier to to do a cleaner reset?

Yes, but for critics The Batman was better received

It's weird that this seems like the polar opposite even though both are Batman movies released a year apart - The Batman was hyper-serious, shot mostly practical and visually beautiful, while this seems to have a universe-spanning scale, a lot of comedy, is largely CGI and seems to not have much of a visual identity. Maybe Batman's just a character that works better in a more detached setting where a singular voice gets to play around with what they'd want.

Moderation

Well, guess I now have to give my warning.

We are not doing this whole "GRR CRITICS BAD" "Well, critics said it was good in one movie , but said it was bad in here. HYPOCRITES HYPOCRITES HYPOCRITES" "CRITICS ARE OUT TO GET DC"

It's all hyperbolic nonsense. One movie can execute something and make it entertaining and fun, while another one can do it poorly. And there's plenty of evidence of DC movies being well-regarded critically. There's no conspiracy out to get the movies you like, and you frankly sound ridiculous for doing all this. You don't need to defend some corporate product designed to sell toys to children because meanie critics said mean things about it. You're adults, so please act like one. And if you do this crap again, you will see a threadban. Your choice.

Depends on what you mean by "easier". Easier in the sense of forgetting everything that came before and pretend the new Superman is the start of the DCU? That can be countered by the fact that studios are control freaks and they can put a huge pressure on James Gunn. Are you ready to hear and read future "behind the scenes" reports saying the new Superman is "chaotic" and Gunn's last chance to save the sinking ship?

Sure, I'm probably being way too much dramatic and even ironic, BUT we should be realistic and expect this kind of stuff. Nobody does movies for charity. At least, not studios. DC / WB ( at least regarding comic book movies ) are known for being hit or miss. For every Dark Knight we get a Batman and Robin.

early  presales show 100m will be tough. This always felt like a movie more hyped online than with the GA

If Flash gets good reviews and a fresh score on RT, WB / DC will see that as a win. Sure, money and profit are part of the business, but DC really needs a fresh movie on RT. So, fresh score first, money later.

While we'll be seeing the inevitable "Flash's budget is X,Y,Z" threads / topics, it's obvious that quality should matter. DC needs it . WB needs it.

But if your paid attention to presale tracking thread well enough, no one in the right mind will think SV2 was heading to just $80m OW.
