Can now do a direct comp with The Batman,

day 4 of sales for Dr Strange 16370 at nearest 24 theatres

day 4 of sales for Batman was 6032

I’ll do a count again at like day 14 for another direct comp.

Day 14,

Batman was 9427

Dr strange is 18605

Dr Strange has already surpassed The Batman final sales so I’ll do a comparison on day 21 which was the last day I had for Batman, then I can use those numbers for future comps.

It's a bit all over the place, and all the comps go into weird and wild directions by the end of their run. But this seems fairly solid, considering that this isn't a film that will make much in previews anyways. Addams Family 2 did 31.5x its previews for instance, while Ron's Gone Wrong did 30.4x its previews.

Rn I'm feeling 12-14M for Northman and 8-10M for Massive Talent/Bad Guys. Northman might over index in cities but Dolby sales can't be underestimated.

Single digits would be a DISASTER for Bad Guys, but at this point I'd consider anything over $15m a win. We're a far cry from the heyday of DreamWorks's box office.

Massive Talent had today 335 sold tickets.

Up good 103% since Monday.

Comps (both counted on Wednesday for Friday): The Lost City (30.5M OW) had 519 sold tickets

and Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (11.4M OW) had 132 sold tickets.

I still doubt that Massive Talent is a walk-up film (like the other two movies mentioned above were) but the presales in my theaters are really decent.

The Northman had today 456 sold tickets.

Up modest 34% since Monday.

Comps (all counted on Wednesday for Friday): The Last Duel (4.8M OW) had 96 sold tickets,

The Green Knight (6.8M OW) had  344

and Death on the Nile (12.9M OW) had 295 in the same 6 theaters.

The presale number itself is still good but that it lost some ground compared to The Green Knight is worrying me - even though I think The Northman has way more mass appeal. I hope the jump till tomorrow is better than till today.

By the way, the reviews in Germany are good too.

The Bad Guys had today 345 sold tickets in 7 theaters.

Comps (all counted on Wednesday for Friday): The Boss Baby 2 (16M OW) had 140 sold tickets in 6 theaters (would be vs 230 for The Bad Guys in the same 6 theaters),

Dolittle (21.8M OW) had 240 sold tickets

and Clifford (16.6M OW) had 122 sold tickets.

Not bad at all.

I think Lionsgate is done.  Moonfall bombed and cost them millions.  They pulled The Unbreakable Boy from the schedule in March, sold off Shotgun Wedding to Amazon a couple weeks ago, their marketing ran a terrible campaign on The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and now it appears the trailer for The Devil's Light has been removed.

They are still the closing presentation at CinemaCon, but I can't imagine how or why.

If I were them and I needed a guaranteed cash infusion, they should move up John Wick 4 to August.  It is reportedly done and ready to go.

Yeah, it seems obvious Lionsgate's days are numbered as far as being a standalone studio. Aside from the aforementioned completed movies, I don't think they have anything in development right now. But hey, at least that lasted much longer and enjoyed more success than other non-majors looking to compete with the big guys like Open Road (which ended up going under shortly after putting out a Best Picture winner).

$18-20 m for FB3 and Sonic 2

$15m for Bad Guys

$8-12m for Northman

$5-7m for UWOMT

Im trying to understand what Unbearable Weight is supposed to be? A passion product of Cage? A meta-commentary "look at us make fun of hollywood" type movie? Something else?
