Sony are now using cinema seating charts to promote tickets being on sale and they’re specifically including THURSDAY in their advertising. I’m guessing Whitney isn’t tracking well at all.

Such a shame if it flops, but all signs seem to point to low interest.

FWIW I've been monitoring Christmas Day sales and it (and Babylon, for that matter) has sold a ton of seats already. So not total doom and gloom at least.

Seeing some 3D shows pop up for Puss in Boots, which is interesting not just for its prospects, but also because it will mean Avatar will lose some it’s 3D shows

Back :).
With 17 respectively 18 days left M3gan had today 94 sold tickets for Thursday, Jan 5 (with showtimes in all 7 theaters now) and 73 sold tickets for Friday, Jan 6 (with showtimes in 6 theaters).

Comps: The Invitation had on Monday of its release week 96 respectively 87 sold tickets.

And Prey for the Devil had also on Monday of its release week 140 respectively 207 sold tickets.

Of course it's too early for real predictions but this looks quite promising.

Well, I expected worse presales in my theaters. Let's see how the jumps are but at the moment I think at least double digits could happen.

I’m guessing non-premium isn’t selling all that well.

From what I am seeing in other markets, so long as it keeps the biggest/premium screens, doesn't really matter if it loses some of the worse shows.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody, counted today at 11am EST for Thursday, Dec 22:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7):
31 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 1
1 (3 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
9 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 1 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
1 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
55 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 30 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 138.

Comps: The Fabelmans had also on Monday of the release week 67 sold tickets.
Gucci had on Monday for Wednesday (=
1 day left for IWD) 414 sold tickets.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody, counted today at 11am EST for Friday, Dec 23:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7):
78 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
3 (5 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
12 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
0 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
it said today no showtimes but it had already showtimes 1-2 weeks ago, weird. Of course they will be back soon.
LA (AMC Universal): 33 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 128. So with showtimes in the AMC Metreon the Friday presales would be better than those for Thursday.

Comps: The Fabelmans had also on Monday of the release week 55 sold tickets.
Respect had on Wednesday for Friday (= 2 days left for IWD) 129 sold tickets.

And King Richard had also on Wednesday for Friday (= again 2 days left) 228 sold tickets.

Not great so far but
also not too bad. With good reviews it should also reach at least double digits IMO.

Weird, when I go online on AMC Metreon they list it for Friday with many reserved seats…

2nd local - the non PLF set for Dec 21 and 23 today...

Since the weekend drop for Avatar is being considered, I will say this local is dropping showings and 1 of the large theater size to the smallest size.  For now, here's their set...

Avatar - 3.5 screens/13 showings - 9 3d/4 2d (down from 20) - largest theater and 2.5 smallest size theaters (dropped the other largest for a smallest and the other was also reduced to smallest 60 seater) - so, probably about 40%ish-45%ish seat loss - don't make me do Math, but this has no PLF, so it's crappy 3d and probably didn't do well last weekend (its presales are pretty poor for Tuesday/Wednesday)...

For the rest:

Puss - 2 screens (12 showings - 11 2d / 1 3d) - it gets the other largest screen

Babylon - 2 screens (but 1 is smallest size)

Whitney - 1 screen

Violent Night - 1 screen

Wakanda - 1 screen

Still an open screen and a half...Devotion and Elf had those Wednesday and get dropped Friday, so we'll see if they hold for presales (and parcel them to the booked movies) or if they are booking a foreign film or two (they had none last weekend, which is unusual)...Spirited, Strange World, and Black Adam were dropped for the Wednesday set...

Edit to ADD: Oh, and I guess I should look at Saturday, and not just Friday, since Saturday has Xmas Eve show drop - Avatar will have 10 showings on Xmas Eve before going back to 13 on Xmas.  So, probably about 25% less sellable seats than Friday and Sunday, since it drops 1 of 4 large showings (and then 2 tiny ones)...

I cant think of the last time Ive seen the various dancing of screenings for a film, as far as increases and decreases. Now granted Xmas eve being on Sat and them cutting back shows (so the theatre employees can have their Christmas eve with families), certainly does mix things up a bit.

I think the biggest thing for me (besides the overall legs), is how much business it does between Xmas and New Years and what type of legs just in that time it has.

any specific reason why Puss is doing 3d in the usa?

It's only at select theaters and only once or twice a day at most places showing it that way. Obviously Avatar is going to be top priority for 3D-equipped screens given its length.
