Horizon Part 1 | Kevin Costner-directed Western | June 28, 2024

That's one of the greatest Trailers in years, honestly. I literally got goosbumps watching it. I hiope it does really, really well, but I feel like that's a movie that should have opened in winter for some reason. Could have been a great option opver christmas or the holidays in Jan/Feb.

This looks very televisual but also looks absolutely striking lol. The grading on some of the images is just fantastic

Yeah the colours REALLY pop while also being very naturalistic. The way the blue skies and yellowy/brown mountains compliment each other (esp those back to back shots at 2:25) really made me go wow.

Dances with Wolves is one of my favorite movies, this gives me nostalgic vibes from back in the day when i watched it. Looking very much forward to another Costner western.

Oh man this looks great. Extremely refreshing that this looks like a classic western and not another revisionist take on the genre which has been done to death atp (although I hope it's depiction of indigenous peoples is not as it was in classic westerns ofc).

I hope it does not quite go to the "All White people are bad" angle which Dances with Wolves have.

I can spot that Costner was definently influenced by "The Searchers" here.

it's a good movie, though pretty simplistic .

Costner seems like the kind of guy who'd appreciate a robust theatrical window for his passion project; are they just not going to release this on digital before the 2nd comes out?

A digital release a week before 2 comes out sounds cute, I can see it backfiring

a movie like this having great legs doesnt sound too farfetched, if 1 is still making some serious money the week 2 comes out, will wb ask theaters to pull 1?

He’s right, this would be a great movie to find an audience on streaming so part 2 can draw in more people. I think it would do great over the holidays as counterprogramming to Mufasa and Sonic

Hate to say it but I agree. Granted, it would be kind of exciting to try this new experiment where a sequel comes out theatrically only a few weeks after its predecessor. But if this really is great, maybe letting it find its audience, both in theaters and streaming, before the second one comes out would be a good idea.

That being said, August is kind of empty I guess, and December is pretty full. Even though literally nobody cares about Kraven lol.

Bad Empire take. This year doesn't need any more meat getting removed and August is empty.

I guess maybe if they can delay the Rings anime again and still keep the film rights that would be a decent spot for part 2.

The marketing for this has been really leaning in on the "two parts" aspect so far given how they're opening within such close proximity of each other (easier to save money promoting two movies for the price of one, I guess), so if they're not impressed with how Part 1 does, they can just offload the second a couple of weeks later without much fanfare without spending too much on it.

I suppose December doesn't really have the critical mass of releases yet that a holiday season typically has and it might work as counterprogramming to Nosferatu. Still, if the quick release succession has been their strategy from the start I don't think there's a real reason to deviate from it now besides "vibes". I would like to see studios actually fill August/September with goods instead of bunching them up in the months sandwiching it.
