Top Gun: Maverick | Oscar-wining Billionaire | $1.48bn without China!

Recommended Posts

Top Gun: Maverick hit even higher altitude at the global and international box office this weekend with Sunday’s actuals now included. Tom Cruise’s return as the eponymous flying ace notched a confirmed $85.8M in 64 markets this session, bringing the overseas cume to $261.6M. Along with domestic’s $295.6M, the global total through yesterday is $557.2M.

On Sunday (see below), the international weekend hold was estimated at -20%, already an incredible feat. With the actuals, that improves to -16% which is simply stunning — and quite possibly a record for a movie that opened to over $100M.

Notable changes versus Sunday’s estimates include the UK where the Joseph Kosinski-directed sequel fell by just 9% and has grossed $48.4M to date. Japan was off by 21% for a $22.4M cume through the weekend. Brazil fell a slight 13% to gross $9.6M and Taiwan was up 43% for $7.6M.

The Top 5 overseas markets so far are the UK ($48.4M), Australia ($23.5M), Japan ($22.4M), France ($21.6M) and Germany ($13.1M).

It can do 500 surely. Korea can blow up to $75M.

Now expecting $515M taking $50M in KOR. $550M is def a possibility if KOR does better and slight better in current mkts.

DOM $650M+ possible so $1.2B isn't tough. $1.1B is a lock.

60M+ for japan I think. 50M just seems too conservative with these holds imo.

Last two days including today on pace for 20-30% drop though. Do you think that will be enough for 60m ? 50m seems more safe for now i think.

Last wed was inflated from being the 1st so drop looks higher than it would be normally. Still looks on pace to match/beat monday which was only -19% (and probably better in reality seeing as weekend atp was higher than 1st weekend). Tue was a bit lower but still not a bad drop. TGM's 2nd set of weekdays is still comfortably over FB3's first and after DB opens next weekend I think there's nothing big until beginning of july in japan. So yeah I think it will do 60M.

@charlie Jatinderis it possible that we could have a list of TGM records from every territory? For example, top.3 2nd weekend ever in this this and this...best 3rd weekend ever in blah blah blah...

Sure can we done but I never really bothered about x weekend record. @Shanks and @Bruce have maintained database of such weekend records and can post them.

Already at 2.7m admission after Tuesday. Must be a big monday at box office for TG2 315k from Monday and Tuesday alone for those. Est $2.5-2.8m weekdays depending with what BOM use or what Paramount use. 1.18m admission for weekly, only down 22%. Target 5m

Also already reach 1.36m admission in Germany heading for weekend. Insidekino predict 298k for a -25% from last weekend. 200k for the weekdays.

Germany and France combining in last two days got $4.7m-5m. UK with 3.65m. Japan probably with est 3.5-3.7m from three days. Seems solid hold so far for those countries.

Feel like that's going to be really hard and a lot of work.

Easiest way is probably getting people from different countries doing it for their own country. And I feel like most countries are lacking a great web page to get an idea from.

the US has boxofficemojo, the numbers (as awful as their predictions might sometimes be) and this forum.

Germany has insidekino.de.

I also think that those things aren't happening in that many markets (they are happening in the English speaking markets US, UK, Australia etc.) outside of that it's OWend most of the time was too low for it to get a top 10 2nd weekend. (Not that it isn't holding really well elsewhere, it certainly is).

Germany: / (but having it's 2nd Sunday be the highest day (higher than OD (which fell on a holiday) or first Saturday, is not that common)

Austria: / (afaik) (but it's doing better in Austria than in Germany)

Italy: / (too "small").

Australia (insane):

(2nd weekend) Aus$12.99 (AEG was 13.626, TFA for example was 11.8)

Appreciate your suggestion.

But, in Japan it will fall on #33th in terms of biggest 2nd Weekend.

If you talk about the "%" then, after Demon Slayer, TG:M is the first film to receive a drop below "10%"

I can post the biggest Cruise Movie of 21st Century (2000-)

#1 The Last Samurai : ¥13.70B

#2 Mission Impossible II : ¥9.70B

#3 War of the Worlds : ¥6.00B

#4 Mission Impossible IV : ¥5.38B

#5 Minority Report : ¥5.24B

#6 Mission Impossible III : ¥5.15B

#7 Mission Impossible V : ¥5.14B

#8 Mission Impossible VI : ¥4.72B

Top Gun: Maverick : May be ¥7.0-¥8.0B

Top Gun (1986) : ¥6.70B
