How has way of water performed so much worse than the first one when it comes to imax domestically?

Probably this has something to do with the diversification of PLF. When Avatar in 2009, IMAX is the only PLF brand but today the cinema has a lot more choices when come to PLF such as ScreenX, Dolby.

It's fun because Titanic with re-release should finish its run around $675M-$680M, A2 should finish around $675M-$680M and AIW finished its run with $678M

Last prediction from Charlie was $1413M OS-China, last update in China is around $243M but we can expect few millions more (maybe 3 or 4) so maybe $1660M OS final run and $675M DOM for a $2,335B global cume.

James Cameron's Masterpiece "Avatar The Way Of Water" has reached $252.2M global in the final weekend of its record-setting run. The international cume is $164.6M, which includes $52.2M from China, the 2nd Highest IMAX result ever in the market.

 

The Wandering Earth II has done $538M through Sunday (including $49.2M in IMAX to become the format’s biggest local-language result ever)

It increased by less than a million.

If it will cross $670M domestically it will reach $2.3B ww with the current 29/71 split.

I refuse to believe this film doesn’t have another $25M in the tank domestically but let’s see how it will handle Ant Man 3.

Comscore track almost all markets but it don't compile the worldwide number, except in case of some non-studio film doing big in tracked areas. This chart is just studio estimates.
