Not true. The Rock is a great 90s action movie, Nic Cage and Sean Connery are amazing together. Bad Boys 1 is cheesy fun and the first Transformers (although too long) is also good. Ambulance as well.

The action scenes on the asteroid are some of Bay's worst, IMO

Agreed, not even close for me honestly. One of the best action movies I've ever seen.

Should give that a rewatch. I remember thinking it was obnoxious when I first saw it, but that was before I really became more tolerant and engaged towards Bay's style of filmmaking. Maybe when Bad Boys 4 comes out...eventually.

However, despite following box office closer than most, the consensus here seems to be that the movie is already disappointing at the BO (from the posts I have read). This movie can notvdisappoint at this stage. You need 2 to 3 weeks worth of data before you can predict if the movie is disappointing.

 

My gut reaction is the Avatar fans and the Cameron faithful are going to have some fun in a few weeks. How much fun is yet to be determined.

There are definitely a couple distasteful scenes, but the action is incredibly well-done and memorable and I respect just how utterly maximalist the movie is in general.

Yeah I need 45m at least for the contest. Unfortunately am trying a new system which is suggesting 40-41 but hopefully Charlie comes in with a higher number.

But for me the Out of Nowhere Saturday Number on top of the better than foreseen Friday is the Gold Standard for "Something Magical Is Developing".

 

Minions 2 was this year's example of the out of nowhere weekend - presales did not indicate ANYTHING like that weekend was...and then it still had legs...
