Maybe when Russia is less innately problematic as a romanticized fairytale setting.

I can understand Deblois being sucked into a franchise tentpole as a stepping stone to some other big pet project he has in mind, but this is a questionable financial move as well as an artistic one. If this gets anything less than the reception of the animated movies I think it's gonna bomb. I don't think the GA is as blindly nostalgic for this franchise as they are Disney's fairy tale rehashes.

I guess if this had to happen though I would prefer him at the helm.

Hell ,when it came out it was clear that Anastia was just a bad choice for a story to build a musical animated movie around.

It's like Fox was looking for a story they already owned to make into a animated feature, they dug up the script for the 1956 Ingrid Bergmann film on "Anastia" and some fool decided it was good masterial for alight hearted animated film. No wonder it failed.

The story is just too grim for the kind of film Fox wanted to make.

Buy yeah, using Russia for an romacticized fairytale setting right now would be like using Nazi Germany in the 30's as a setting.

“I’m not interested in them,” he replied casually. “I haven’t seen many of them. They’re made by capable filmmakers and I don’t want to disparage any of the talent or the hard work that went into them, I just think that it’s lazy on the part of the studio. I think it’s easy to go back to something successful that a really talented team put a lot of years of hard work into and then redo it… but to me that is a missed opportunity to put something original into the world.”

Wonder what changed his mind lol

One of my favorite (and by favorite I mean...not, because it's very sad) is when the guy who created Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends admitted on Twitter he pitched a ton of original ideas to different animation studios, but none of them got picked up despite him being on tons of hit cartoon shows. So he basically gave up and signed on to yet another Powerpuff Girls reboot (and a Foster's reboot!), so he can pay the bills. I'm not saying anything, but I'm also not NOT saying anything.

Tbh yeah I think this is likely for some type of deal for Universal live action as Deblois has been trying to get his foot in that door for a while.

The Craig McCracken story really saddens me. Especially because he’s made a lot of good cartoons (PPG, Fosters, Wander, Kid Cosmic) and now he’s stuck with reboots.

Isn't Hiccup supposed to be a teen in the OG animated movie?  Holland will be almost 30 by the time this comes out. They're gonna go with an unknown in all likelihood.

I think that Holland is really pushing to be cast as Fred Astaire in the upcoming biopic shows he probalby want to move beyond Teen age roles....and I suspect Peter Parker will age to his twenties in the next trilogy.

Well that didn't turn out very well for Ridley Scott

I think Scott was trying to remake "THe Ten Commandments" more then Prince of Egypt.

Of course Prince of Egypt borrowed a lot from the De Mille film to being with.....
