WGA/SAGAFTRA Strike Discussion Thread | SAG Ratifies Contract

WWE and its parent company aren't part of the AMPTP TBF although wrestling is in a that weird bubble that it's entirely scripted and performed but it's not considered acting.

Soap operas are acted but part of a separate contract under SAG, with the game/variety/talk shows. Remember when James Franco was a regular on General Hospital? Any actor could go to the remaining daytime dramas if they wanted, although it might cause resentment among soap lifers. Soap writers are all under one contract with WGA and therefore also on strike (the shows tape months in advance and some have hired ficore writers). So you aren't going to get a bunch of A-listers creating a star-studded full-length version of The Californians to tide themselves over in the meantime.

WWE would probably be considered a game/variety show if not sports and performers on those programs aren't part of the current SAG strike.

I think we're going to get even more stars "writing" novels and children's books.

Several actors from Buffy recorded a audible during the strike and its available next month.

I'm assuming Disney had to approve this since they own the franchise now under Fox. Amber Benson is a co-writer and actor and in both guilds obviously.

This whole Drew situation has been too much lmao. The backlash, her poorly worded response as to why the show "needed" to come back, the fallout from said response. Hopefully these talks between AMPTP and WGA go well this week cause I'm ready for this "finding an outlet to unleash our anger at" era of the strike to be over.

For people who get their entertainment from entertainment news, it's the only thing to latch onto that's accessible. Most of us don't know ins and outs of the negotiations.

Honestly, I am getting tired of a lot of these people using social media and frankly a lot of them like Bradley Whitford need to stay off it.

What a way to torpedo your career. Nice work Drew.

She's not been cancelled and I suspect the whole thing will be forgotten within a year.

At least Drew comes out looking better compared to the unapologetic asshole that is Bill Maher, who you can't even hope to bully into making the right decision

Not really. Drew only does this out of social pressure, so she doesn't really come off as a better person. And her previous arguments that she cared about her crew fall completely flat.

In fact, this shows that the pressure from executives for the show to return wasn't so impossible to overcome. So, even that defense for Drew is lost.

At least she cares about social pressure. But when there are people who are intently acting against the will of the writers that seems like the much bigger fish to fry to me. Honestly she's an easy target precisely because she has the much more sensitive public image.

I honestly think some of the pile on was a bit unnecessary and some of her peers need to perhaps think before they post their thoughts. Most were fine but some like Bradley Whitford for example just came across as nasty and almost threatening.

You think people are trying to be mad, they’re overreacting, this stuff is forgettable… I’m pretty sure that people who are economically and philosophically committed to this don’t need your advice.

Bill Maher would probably just make fun of the people criticizing him on his show, and call them snowflakes (is that still a thing?) or whatever.
