Girls trip did pretty well not sure how you define gangbusters.

I would define it as over 100 mil domestic. Jumanji movies don't count as they're also action/adventure. Ditto anything like Deadpool.

Good Boys and Sausage Party did well, but not over 100 mil domestic, although Party got very very close.

I would count Crazy Rich Asians. So that was the last one. Interesting that nobody who showed up for that showed up for Joy Ride.

overseas weekend numbers

31.8M INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY

31.4M INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR

30.0M ELEMENTAL

So can ELEMENTAL still be number one? 😁

I blame Lionsgate for barely marketing the damn thing. This is the second critically acclaimed film they've had this year (other one is Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret) that has massively underperformed at the box office simply cause they aren't marketing it correctly.

But a legit one. I have a similar story about “hey; do you want to be Admin here?”

Next week's Elvis numbers for Elemental to match or exceed on its quest to $150m. Elvis had no new competition in this week so the weekend holds in particular are probably unbeatable. Based on a $2.9m Sunday I'm gonna go with

Mon: $1.74m (-40%) - Being kid-friendly in the summer will ensure it has a weaker drop than Elvis

Tue: $2.35m (+35%) - Tuesdays have been very strong for this movie, this will be a bit weaker than the +52% two weeks ago because of MI7 EA though

Wed: $1.65m (-30%) - more MI7 EA

Thu: $1.49m (-10%) - MI7 actual previews, shouldn't be as bad as the -14% when Indy had previews two weeks prior though because less overlap in the audience.

Fri: $2.01m (+35%) - weaker Thu -> Fri jump than Elvis because of schools being off. Also it might lose more theatres at this point so a smaller jump than this week when there was no new competition.

Sat: $2.61m (+30%)

Sun: $2.09m (-20%)

$13.94m for the week overall versus $12.06m for Elvis and $6.71m for the 4th weekend (-30%), a touch higher than Elvis ($6.58m). The week after this it will probably fall behind in dailies again since Elvis had no new competition for the 2nd week in a row while Elemental will be up against Barbieheimer. After that it will be up to the late legs, these next two weeks were the strongest of Elvis's entire run so as long as it emerges out of them pretty close to it I think we'll be good for $150m.

Well these last 7 pages were an interesting read.

Anyway, having just finished watching Fallout again, im more stoked than ever for Dead Reckoning. I want that movie to blow away my crippling depression and crawling anxiety. So that i can feel things again.

So Elemental has logged 24 consecutive days above 2m. It will likely end tomorrow, but I’m curious what the last film to open with less than 30m is to achieve that.

Puss in boots maybe? Greatest Showman?

Greatest Showman had 19 consecutive. PBLW topped out at 15. That's a good question @harry713. It very well could be the record for a sub-30M opener.

Do we think Wish can make 200DOM if Elemental gets close to 150. I imagine it'll get better reviews than Elemental.

If it gets similar reception to stuff like Frozen/Moana/Encanto then yeah it absolutely could.
