Weekend Thread | July 7-9 | Weekend Estimates on Page 32

Recommended Posts

I just got out of sound of freedom and based on the audience reaction to it (two different ovations at the end), I think this could be just the beginning of its box office run. It made $40 million in his first week....once WOM starts spreading, hopefully more and more casual moviegoers will end up seeing it. Hopefully it can make a run for 100 million.

The only Bond film I’ve ever seen is the one with Halle Berry in it 😅

This is the best Bond movie ever. You can see how Tom Cruise took notes from it for his M:I movies. There are the M:I movies before Casino Royale and the ones after it and there is a clear distinction.

Does it work for a non faith-based audience? I'm debating seeing it but I can't deal with faith-based movies.

A queen.

If anyone wants to list the must-watch Bond films, I’ll add them to my watchlist.

Hmmm...

Dr. No

From Russia with Love

Goldfinger

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

The Living Daylights

License to Kill

Goldeneye

Tomorrow Never Dies

Casino Royale

Skyfall

No Time to Die

The Craig movies are supposed to all be watched in order, but only three of them are good, so...I dunno.

Although Casino Royale does take from the best spy franchise. This was the true originator, the gamechanger that turned the spy genre on its head. And we're all better for it.

It has nothing to do with a faith-based audience. We've all seen the quote, "but God's children are not for sale". That's about his religious as it gets in the movie. It completely focuses on rescuing kids.

New Insidious rankings.

Patrick Wilson might have a career directing drama or something, but going by this film at least he has 0 feel for horror. The family drama stuff is surprisingly decent, but the script and plot is not good. The 3rd act is muddled.

The movie goes 20-30 minutes at a time between horror parts, and when they do come they're so bland and ineffective.

I'm confused about Rogue Nation. Theatres near me have showtimes starting tomorrow. Is this basically a Monday opening being couched as "early access"? What do we think it will do opening "weekend"?

How's it going back in 2015?

Greatest Showman had 19 consecutive. PBLW topped out at 15. That's a good question @harry713. It very well could be the record for a sub-30M opener.

If we restrict to movies without *any* weekends over 30M, Sixth Sense got 26 days off a 27M open 😎

Into the Spiderverse matched 24 with a 35M open and Ocean’s 11 did 27 days off of 38M.

Wedding Crashers got 31 days(!) off a 34M open.

ADMIN POST:

Me, personally, if I see another Sound of Freedom post:

classic film i dont care GIF

That said, it appears people really want to talk about the movie. Whether you’re a user, past moderator, or current moderator. Despite me repeatedly asking y’all to stay a political about it. Because I know that it normally just ends up in a lot of people fighting with each other, and warnings getting issued, and that’s just a huge waste of time.

Yet, in the spirit of not wanting to quell discussion, I’m going to propose something.

Here is the Sound of Freedom Thread

You can talk about that movie, however, you want, regardless of how you feel about it, in that thread. Go free. Sound your freedom.

BUT any other discussion, other than what it specifically did for box office numbers, anywhere else on the board, will result in one warning point, per post, to whomever strays from the box office numbers.

if that is something you want to do, leave a “Thumbs Up” on this post. If you don’t want that, and want us to continue as we’ve done all weekend, leave a “Heart” on this post.

I’m going to give you until 11:59PM PST to leave her reaction vote. Whatever wins after that, is how we will proceed.

otherwise, I’m done. I’m just really tired and again to quote Judy:

Respects man to allowing people to debate in a different thread.

You didn’t like the MRI scene? I thought he did a good job, but how is he supposed to create scares that aren’t in the script?

Jumanji WTJ had 28 days off a $36M opening (Wed) but not benefit of summer weekdays

According to Mojo, Wedding Crashers failed on 8/11 (27 days), but on Numbers it did not? (both show numbers as estimates though)

That would definitely be a higher estimate than other reliable sources. I believe Variety pegged it at 295.

The budget for Indiana Jones just keeps going up.... Why don't we just say it cost $600 million before marketing?

Some of these guys are getting absurd.
