Are you guys going to even bother doing sellout reports for National Cinema Day on 8/27?

I remember hearing even The Black Phone was selling out on NCD last year, even though it was for free on streaming on Peacock. People were going just to have something to do.

Seems like it would be easier to just say every showing on Sunday will sell out and move on.

Early US showtime sample for Sunday:

Gran Turismo: 9,597 (1,425 TC)
Barbie: 6,722 (1,179 TC)
Blue Beetle: 6,146 (1,189 TC)
Strays: 5,500 (1,103 TC)
Ninja Turtles: 4,715 (971 TC)
Retribution: 3,607 (719 TC)
Oppenheimer: 3,604 (912 TC)
Meg 2: The Trench: 2,588 (616 TC)
The Hill: 2,547 (589 TC)
Golda: 2,013 (429 TC)
Jurassic Park 3D: 1,213 (554 TC)
American Graffiti 50th: 935 (580 TC)
Haunted Mansion: 523 (191 TC)
Sound of Freedom: 504 (188 TC)
M:I7: 440 (278 TC)
Mario Bros: 370 (202 TC)
The Little Mermaid: 356 (160 TC)
Last Voyage: 325 (158 TC)
Talk to Me: 253 (113 TC)

Still early, but should give an idea of the breakdown.  I'll try to remember to break these out on Friday.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Previews: (numbers taken at around 4 PM CST as usual)

Gran Turismo (T-4):

Day: T-4 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 15 theaters 60 30 73 11644 0.68

Comps:

0.31x Blue Beetle- $1.02 Million

0.38x Haunted Mansion (just Thursday)- $1.17 Million

Not great but it's all about these last few days, interested to see if good WOM from the EA shows shows up in these sales.

The Equalizer (T-11):

Day: T-11 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 16 theaters 75 59 59 13946 0.42

I don't have great comps for this, but I tracked The Woman King last year and I think it might be a decent comp at that point of time (T-4 on). Don't really wanna compare this with the huge summer blockbusters

Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Previews:

Gran Turismo (T-3):

Day: T-3 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 15 theaters 63 16 89 11995 0.74

Comps:

0.3x Blue Beetle- $976k

0.37x Haunted Mansion (just Thursday)- $1.14 Million

Dropped against both.

Even worse than Blue Beetle. But this is a Denzel action flick and so I am expecting it to sell close to release than 15 days to go.

Equalizer 3 MTC1

Friday - 6253/662230 101713.19 3164 shows

There is still about 10 days to go before previews start. So let us see where things are next Monday.

Man it's gonna be a boring next couple months until November.

I am hoping (probably in vain) for a mini-breakout for The Creator, personally.

It has the potential, at least, to breakout (again for given definitions of "break out") given the legit low-level buzz surrounding it. But whether it actually does or not, only the gods know.

Movie delays and Oppenheimer breaking out is giving me hope for Killers of the Flower Moon, so much good buzz around that that I hope reaches the general audience.

Btw, not too late to join my over $300M worldwide club for that ;)

It does have a pretty open field as the first PG-13 aspiring tentpole in a while and won't have any direct competition until November. As long as reviews/WOM are solid, I think it's one of those that could be around for a while as long as it opens solid enough (preferably $25M+ but even $20M would be acceptable-ish levels for this type of movie too).

National Cinema Day already effecting segueing for Blue Beetle and Barbie near me. So many sell outs! Had to go to the OC area to get my tickets for Sunday lol

I’m curious how Sunday will effect the box office this weekend

Leo not being able to promote it is unfortunate, and Paramount doesn't seem like they're doing much either. Hope it does well.
