and Moonfall had also on Monday of the release week 584 sold tickets (but small jumps in the next few days and it must have had bad walk-ups).

Pretty good start. The only „problem“ so far is that the sales are very uneven: As you can see, it has very good sales in the AMCs in San Francisco and LA but not e.g. in the AMC in Miami.

What do you think is the reason for the uneven sales between theaters?

Idk. On the one hand e.g. in the AMC in Texas the moviegoers buy their tickets mostly way later than e.g. the people in NY or LA and this film is no exception. And secondly e.g. The Exorcist has pretty even sales so it could also have to do with the genre which maybe connects more with the audiences in NY and California? But it's very early and can of course change in the next few days or weeks.

Someething really weird that friday presales fell off the cliff. I ran again this morning and its at 494344. It does not even have refunds. I looked at Day 2 and it seems more in line. May be all good seats in prime time shows are near sellouts and it needs new shows to grow going forward or its an anomaly for a day. We will know today.

Update on showtime cancellation:

 

-There's still no reference in MTC4 subreddit or the Taylor Swift subreddit about these cancelled shows. Based on sales, it doesn't look like people are operating on the assumption that the matinees are cancelled.

 

-A Reddit user at r/boxoffice has said that they have one of the impacted tickets, but have not received word from Cineplex. They only realized it's cancelled based on my update here.

 

-My theory is that they've shut down sales, but Cinepl is still trying to figure out what to do. Maybe they think they can get Taylor Swift's camp to allow early sales. Maybe they want to add more showtimes before cancelling existing. Either way, they're not communicating it out.

 

-I can't imagine that they stay in this holding pattern for too long. Some fans will notice. And once they do, they'll start flooding support lines with calls to get more inform.

 

For my part, I was complaining a few days ago how the low sales were getting a bit boring. I guess I got the drama I was looking for.

Fwiw, I would be careful, despite the title, of leaning on pure horror comps for Haunting in Venice; its going to play much older, not likely drawing in the younger - and late buying - horror crowd. I don't have a good comp in mind, though I haven't really been paying too close of attention for the past month, but expecting a fairly soft finish.  Maybe Haunted Mansion or Greek Wedding?

For now, the awareness/interest for Creator is fairly low, mostly confined to cinephiles, of which there are more in some markets like NY/LA and even SF than others. Question is how much larger of audience can be reached, and will they care?
