Disney’s Wish is gaining some traction with a solid -38% hold and including a No. 1 opening in Japan this weekend of $4.4M to make it the second-biggest non-local animated start of the year. The full frame was worth $12.2M in 39 offshore markets, lifting the international total to $72M and global to $126.2M. Markets still to come include Italy, Australia, Korea and Brazil.

 

The Top 5 markets to date are as follows: France ($9.2M), UK ($8.4M), Germany ($7.7M), China ($5.9M) and Spain ($4.8M).

As usual Mexico not being one of the top 5 for original disney animation… Pixar, Illumination and DreamWork’s originals have Mexico as one of the top 5

Italy debuted at No. 2 this session with  $1.2M, 40% above Sing 2 to set it up nicely for the holidays.  After its second weekend in Japan, Wish has grossed an estimated $8.6M and remains the top non-local title. Its 40% sophomore drop is the best second weekend of all Disney/Pixar animation films since the start of the pandemic era.

 

Here are the Top 5 so far: France ($11.1M), UK ($10M), Germany ($9.2M), Japan ($8.6M) and China ($5.9M).

 

Markets still to release include Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Brazil.

Deadline:  Wish reached $209.5M global, the fourth-highest grossing animated release of 2023 worldwide. Internationally, the drop was good at 26% with another set of strong holds including in the Netherlands (+5%), Germany (-12%), Italy (-16%), Japan (-19%), Australia (-27%), France (-28%), Spain (-33%) and the UK (-40%). The full weekend was $19M in 51 markets for an overseas cume of $146.9M.

Korea was a new play this session, with Wish coming in at a solid $4.6M for the best Disney or Pixar animated opening since the pandemic. In Brazil, Wish opened at No. 2 with $1.7M, ahead of Encanto, Migration and Elemental. It was No. 1 in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay, also coming in ahead of fellow opener Migration.

Here are the Top 5 markets: France ($19.1M), Japan ($18.5M), Germany ($14.9M), UK ($14.4M) and Italy ($9.2M).

Here in Italy it had an incredible recovery, 1M opening weekend but thanks to the Christmas holidays it's now at 8M euros

I would say it's doing pretty good. Still in the top 4 movies at the Japanese box office.
