Monkey Man | Universal/Monkeypaw | Dev Patel action thriller | 04/05/2024

This looks like it has potential to be a big sleeper hit. These type of visually kinetic arthouse action films tend to build momentum through the smaller venues first. Major respect for Dev Patel going all out like this on his directorial debut.

On YouTube it's already up to nearly 2 million view and 62k likes, that seems like a really good number for an original movie that had basically no hype around it only 12 hours ago. If Universal keeps this up, and if the movie is even half-decent, feel like it could end up being a solid breakout for them in April.

Buddy RRR is not even the same state as this movie is set in

I wasn't trying to be exact. It's not even the same  time period obviously. And if offended you  I truly apologize. Did not mean anything what so ever.

This is 100% a franchise starter. Huge bonus that Patel is a real life black belt. Something Marvel should have thought of before signing Ali as Blade. Snipes being a real martial artist made a difference.

Great trailer. Clear story, great action, enough levity (the attempted window jump lol), exortic location. It's gonna break out.

Damn, really happy this seems to have resonated with so many.

I think it will be more than that. It's a straightforward revenge story with a folklore element that keeps it fresh. Action looks really great which is essential for an action movie. John Wick built itself over watercooler action scenes. Yo bro you must see ____(insert scene).

It's now up to 6.75 million views and 162k likes. i don't track YouTube trailer performances enough to know how good that is, but just looking at one example for another upcoming original release, the Imaginary trailer has 11M views but only 75k likes after two months.
