As a good reminder to everybody, you’re not better than anybody else because of your box office analysis. You can state why something is “objectively bad” for whatever reason, just as another user can say said thing is “objectively good”. But if you can’t be nice, if you feel you have to gloat or mock or make fun of others…yeah, you can’t post here. These are just kids movies that only exist to make rich executives richer. I still can't believe looking back on Thursday that we would be here today with Inside Out 2. Unreal and Bad Boys 4 having such an incredible hold even makes me happier.

Inside Out and Bad Boys have already made up for the shortfalls of Furiosa, Fall Guy, arguably Garfield.  So we’re back on track now and need the expected big hitters to deliver for the rest of the month and July.  A surprise or two would go down a treat, but it’s amazing what a couple of great weekends can do to change the mood.

Seeing the forecast here this week in Ontario (which I assume is similar for the rest of the northeast), temperatures are going to be ridiculously hot. Humidex factors into the mid 40 degree range Celsius. 

 

A family movie in an air conditioned theatre is going to seem like a nice activity.

Rolling year comp bottomed out at around -$300 million last week, hopefully that's as bad as it gets. Deadpool looks like it might be pretty close to a Barbenheimer all by itself.

So even with a Dory drop of 24% on Sunday, it's 150m+ OW. It's likely to do 155m OW. Was really hoping it would continue to climb into the 160-170m OW range after Friday but it's still a spectacular performance.

Toronto is not that far from the US border. Actually at a lower latitude than Minneapolis and Seattle

It'll be curious to see how Despicable Me 4 performs in a few weeks now that Inside Out 2 might have potentially stolen its thunder. The third movie showed signs of diminishing returns 7 years ago (without a certified 4 quad juggernaut like this near it) and Minions 2 probably benefitted just as much from its animated competition surrounding it (Lightyear, Paws of Fury, DC League of Super-Pets) being nonevents as it did from that Gentleminions phenomenon.
