no corpse estimation this weekend?

Seems like he didn't get a chance before the weekend started.

Anyway, final numbers for Saturday are in:

[順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名]
 *1 *84862 植物図鑑 運命の恋、ひろいま…
 *2 *75856 デッドプール
 *3 *61916 ズートピア

Down 18.7% from last Saturday. If Sunday is down by a similar amount, then the weekend's total will be about $3.3M. Should be enough for $1B WW.

Perfect timing to finally drop in Japan

Its almost as if the Japanese viewers were thinking, "Yep. We guaranteed Zootopia 1 billion worldwide... so fuck it now, lets start watching other movies."

Had this been a normal week, with normal Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, I estimate that it would've made $5M Monday-Sunday. Assuming 20% drops from here on out means $20M more, giving a final total of $76.0M. Big Hero 6 made $77.7M, so it might manage to beat it, although beating it in yen is likely out of the question now.

Also, if it does indeed hit $1 billion exactly this weekend, $2.5M from Turkey and the rest of overseas and $3M from domestic gets it to $1025.5M. That's enough to surpass An Unexpected Journey's $1021.1M and gets it tied with Alice in Wonderland's $1025.5M.

From Corpse:

Quote
Alright, so I just finished typing up the Saturday Admissions from the Usual Locations (Two-Thirds of the Market) list that I post each week a couple minutes ago, and in the process of submitting it, some error occurred and I lost it ...

Anyway, there's a very close race for the #1 spot this weekend between newcomers Evergreen Love and Deadpool, and Zootopia(now in its seventh weekend). Evergreen Love won Saturday in terms of admissions (84,897), thanks to very robust stage greeting ticket sales. Deadpool ranked a strong second place (76,107), followed by Zootopia falling to third (61,969), down just 19%.

Evergreen Love will likely see a sharp decline on Sunday without the stage greeting benefit (they accounted for ~1/3 of its Saturday ticket sales), and since its avg. ticket price will be pretty low, it may not win the weekend even with the Saturday advantage.

Deadpool opened earlier in the week (Wednesday), so its Sunday should be unaffected. And since it carries an R15+ rating, its avg. ticket price will be high. I think it might edge out the weekend victory, and if it does, it'll be the first superhero film to win a weekend since Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's also worth mentioning that its Saturday was quite strong, especially for a superhero film. Compared to Captain America: Civil War, it trailed just 12%, and it was pretty much on par with Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, trailing it by a mere 1%.

Zootopia has been enjoying significant Sunday increases every week, and tomorrow shouldn't be any different. So with another strong Sunday, it can certainly comeback from a third place ranking on Saturday to win the weekend and its fifth-consecutive overall.

A 20% drop for Zootopia is still excellent! And by the way, it's Sunday that really counts for Zootopia. Even if it's not #1 this week, it might reach #1 again, given small drops.

The real question is how it will hold up on July 16th, when the new Pokemon movie comes out. Also Finding Dory.

Looks like this Sunday will be a drop of around 20% from last Sunday as well.

But keep in mind that there was a Sports Monday right after the weekend last week... its almost a 3-day-weekend, so many kids and their families either couldn't watch on the weekend or deliberately waited until Monday to avoid traffic.

I would say the actual drop is bigger than 20%, maybe 25%~30%.

If Sports Monday depressed last Sunday's numbers, it would've depressed them for the entire day. Since it's already making 80% of last Sunday at 2PM, I don't see any reason why that percentage should drop as the day goes on. If anything, it's actually getting stronger, up to 84% now.

Current Japan Time 18:16,

[順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名]
 *1 *87609 ズートピア
 *2 *68017 植物図鑑 運命の恋、ひろいま…
 *3 *59722 デッドプール

Zootopia needs to beat 植物図鑑 運命の恋 by 25K in order to finish this weekend as number 1... the gap has been 18~19K for a while now so it doesn't look like that's happening.

Turns out the number 1 this week is neither Zootopia nor Deadpool.
Who would have thought?
Or as Shyamalan likes to put it, "what a twist!"

In admissions, sure, but Corpse said that its average ticket price will be low, so it might not finish first in total earnings. On the other hand, Deadpool has a higher per-ticket average than Zootopia but will finish below it in admissions, which means a three-way tie at the top! Are they going to go to the second significant digit for the tiebreaker?

The charmer added an estimated $3.6M in its 17th weekend of overseas release this frame. Japan continues to be the major driver with another $3.2M this session for a dip of just 18%.

With an additional $4.4M worldwide this weekend, Disney’s Zootopia has become the studio’s second $1B grosser of the year at the global box office. Judy Hopps & Co have an offshore cume of $662.8M and a domestic take of $337.22M for a total $1,000.020M.

It reached a billion. This thread can now rest in peace (literally)

I dunno, I'm still going to be tracking Zootopia's progress in Japan. For one thing, it's still going pretty strong and there's some other milestones it can pass (maybe Big Hero 6 in Japan, and 2 or more of the next highest-grossing films worldwide). For another, there's still No Prisoners' contest. (Although I'm probably out of the running for that)

On the other hand, we've already stopped flooding this thread with posts about how Zootopia was doing outside of Japan. :D
