JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Is there a chance that Frozen can increase again on its 3rd weekend from the 2nd?

It's definitely possible, and if it drops, it'll be minuscule.

A lot of films see weekend increases when they occur during a holiday frame (Spring Break, Golden, Obon, New Year), even if it's their second or third weekends.  Alice in Wonderland opened over 1 billion, stayed over 1 billion in its second weekend, and still saw a third weekend increase to remain over 1 billion thanks to Golden Week.

Doraemon will increase over the weekend for sure, and its weekday business is going to skyrocket.

Yes, the lowest price is 11oo yen. This is due to the national tax policy. The sale tax increases from 5 % to 8 %. Yesterday the toho admission is 72506 so that i think next week perhaps the admissions will decrease but the BO will stay almost the same or reduce a bit. of course, if it increases again I will be very happy.

Weekend Ranking [03/22-23]

01 (01) Frozen (Disney) Week 2
02 (02) Doraemon: New Nobita's Great Demon - Peko and the Exploration Party (Toho) Week 3
03 (--) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Fox) DEBUT
04 (03) Pretty Cure All Stars: New Stage 3 (Toei) Week 2
05 (--) God's Medical Records 2 (Toho) DEBUT
06 (05) The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Warner Bros.) Week 4
07 (07) Silver Spoon (Toho) Week 3
08 (--) Lone Survivor (Toho-Towa) DEBUT
09 (--) Saving Mr. Banks (Disney) DEBUT

10 (06) The Mole Song: Undercover Agent Reiji (Toho) Week 6

>Frozen as reported increased in its second weekend, but both Disney and estimates were... LOW! The film actually increased 13% taking in ¥872,269,400 ($8.6 million) with 680,855 admissions. This is the 9th biggest second weekend since at least 1998 (no weekend data prior to this date), and the only film since then to ever open above ¥500 million to see a second weekend increases without Holiday support.

And as equally as impressive, its 10-day total reached ¥3.01 billion ($29.6 million) with 2.43 million admissions. It has an extra day in release when compared to The Wind Rises (¥2.85 billion) or Monsters University (¥2.49 billion), but this is the second highest two week total for an animated film since Ponyo (¥3.23 billion).

Eventually it should lose its momentum once Spring Break is over, allowing the films it's tracking ahead of currently to catch up since their holidays boosts came later in their runs. But if it keeps up this pace... ¥10 billion ($100 million), while already a possibility, becomes more likely.

>The Secret Life of Walter Mitty saw a decent start with ¥147,534,700 ($1.4 million) with 112,880 admissions on 594 screens. It opened last Wednesday, so its 5-day total managed to break ¥330 million ($3.2 million). I'd call this a good opening, more than most probably expected it to do. It may have a chance at reaching the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone.

>God's Medical Records 2 is a major bust and the first big bomb of the year. It only grossed ¥98,460,300 ($970,000) with 80,913 admissions over the weekend on 325 screens. It did open on Friday due to the Holiday, bringing its 3-day total to a more respectable ¥214,840,000 ($2.1 million), but the weekend frame itself is down 60% compared to the first film and the 3-day total is still below the first film's 2-day by 21%...

>Lone Survivor debuted on 202 screens to ¥53,421,900 ($525,000) with 43,131 admissions. Could have down a little better, could have done a bit worse, in the end it's just meh.

>And finally, Saving Mr. Banks had to settle for 9th taking in just ¥47,835,600 ($470,000) with 37,764 admissions on 223 screens. The lack of any award attention this past season really hurt its potential, what little it probably had to begin with anyway.

For those "2 week totals", are all those just for the end of their 2nd weekend or are some of them to the end of their 2nd week?

I'm curious since BOM has Monsters University as $20,152,389 after it's 2nd weekend (July 13-14), but on the above list it has MU as $25.2m, which would seem to include the weekdays from its 2nd week.

Edit- OK, I checked a bunch of others on the list and they all seem to be just to the end of the 2nd weekend, it only seems the numbers for MU don't jive.
