There is nothing going on this weekend. There is rarely a notable film that opens the first weekend of April since it's after Spring Break and three weeks before Golden Week, so the beginning of April generally isn't a good time for anything to do well. Drops are also a bit harsh this weekend, especially for younger skewing films.

>Doraemon: Nobita's Chronicle of Moon Exploration will achieve its sixth-consecutive week atop the weekend box-office.

>Vice is debuting this weekend in limited release and might sneak into the bottom of the top 10, but it would probably require one of the current top 10 films to drop 50%+ to make it.

This weekend is serving as the calm before the storm that's to come next weekend, when Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire opens. It was already very likely to achieve the biggest opening weekend of 2019 overall, but with the dead/weak market it'll be opening in, it could really make its impact felt in the record books.

Trailer for "Weathering with You", the new movie by the director of "Your Name.", a very likely contender for the top grossing movie of the year.

Animation looks stunning as always. I hope this gets an Australian release date. Radwimps back for the music too!

Which one do you think will gross more, Frozen 2 or this one?

If I had to guess, I'd say Frozen 2 since it is a direct sequel. People have already grown to love the characters and the world represented in the first film. Weathering with You is a completely different film from Your Name (sharing only the same director). What made Your Name such a huge phenomenon might not be so easily recaptured with this new film.

I think Frozen II will do more, it’s going to be hard for Shinkai to top Your Name,  box office of his other films is not great, that said I think this one will still perform closer to Your Name in terms of gross than his earlier works.

On a non box office note, Your Name is my favourite movie of this decade so far and was such a great emotional journey hope this film can come close to matching this loving the look of it and the fantasy abilities the girl has. Also it wouldn’t be a Shinkai film without a train shot :D

Your Name is nowhere near close to the perfection The Garden of Words... Ah that sad ending just thinking of it makes me cry :sadno:

Garden of Words is top three for me for sure, but I kinda like the somewhat happy ending of Your Name compared to his other works and I think 5 Centimetres per Second has a better sad ending than Garden of Words. All three are excellent though, kinda like picking your favourite Ghibli, Disney or Pixar movie there are many choices, just comes down to personal preference.

No one should watch 5 cm per second that movie is injustice. When I watched it I didn't want to touch anything..... God just thinking about that movie makes me hate it so much.... Atleast the new manga version has better ending... 5 cm per second ia the most depressing movie I've ever seen I wouldn't recommend it to anybody (jk) (cries in corner)...

Weathering With You looks amazing as expected, really hoping it breaks out like Your Name and does huge business.

Does anybody know if it's getting a worldwide release? something like Dragon Ball Super Broly movie that came out a couple of months ago? they even played DBS broly in theaters here for 2 weeks and we almost never get anime movies at all. So I hope this gets a similar release.

Update: Shinkai confirmed on Thursday that the film will get a worldwide release, and releases have already been decided for North America, Europe, Asia, and South America. Source: Eiga.com

It will apparently if I remember right role out much quicker than Your Name, I assume that means all major territories by the end of the year, could also mean day and date.

In Australia and New Zealand we only had to wait a few months for Your Name to come to theatres so the wait wasn’t too bad, hopefully it’s the same for this one.

@Jamiem @RealLyre Have you guys watched The Silent Voice movie? If not please watch it, it's really really good..

Yeah that’s super depressing in a good way not quite on Grave of the Fireflies level but came close. Another good recent one was In this Corner of the World, so check both of those out if you haven’t seen them yet.
