whoot
For a win, probably, but I don't know if Brave is completely out yet. It's still the second-best reviewed film of the year. If there are a couple more disappointments it could go in as a fourth or fifth selection. And if WiR, IA4, RoG, etc don't pull a HTTYD, then this could be 2006 where all the nominees were middling and anybody can win (like HF did). lab276
So far, I'd bet on Brave winning. And I don't think either Madagascar 3 or IA4 have a hope of getting nominated.

riczhang
I'm kinda hoping that an indie animation wins over the usual Pixar fare.
lab276
I'm kinda hoping that an indie animation wins over the usual Pixar fare. That could've happened last year, but didn't.
riczhang
That could've happened last year, but didn't.Yeah, but then again they nommed two indies, so that probably split the vote. But A Cat in Paris deserved it so much......
AniNate
That could've happened last year, but didn't.Technically it did, since two indies were nominated and Cars 2 was left out
riczhang
Technically it did, since two indies were nominated and Cars 2 was left outBut that was Cars 2, everyone's better off if we pretend that it never existed.
whoot
Ice Age 4's early reviews not looking so good. Even the fresh reviews say, "just don't expect anything, and you'll like it!" Safe to say this is not going to be nominee. So The Pirates! Band of Misfits is still the favorite so far...
JohnnY
What about The Secret World of Arrietty? Its reviews are on par with Ponyo reviews and I definitely think Ponyo should have been nominated in 2009.
AniNate
Arrietty can't be nominated since it was originally released in Japan in 2010. And it's a damn shame because I really loved it.
JohnnY
I think they only consider the american release date. Howl's Moving Castle was released in Japan in 2004, in the US in 2005 and was nominated for the academy award in 2006. Same thing hapenned to Spirited Away. Although Arrietty was released 2 years after the japanese date, not only one, does it make a difference?
AniNate
Yes. It can only be one year.

JohnnY
Yes. It can only be one year. That sucks, then. The movie really deserved a nomination.
forg
Brave deserves a nomination, a win well I have to see the others first. ParaNorman is getting a lot of good reviews so far. And well maybe this year an indie/arthouse animation could win.
AniNate
ParaNorman appears to have become the frontrunner
AniNate
Now that I've seen it, there's no question that ParaNorman will be a top contender just because of one ultra-ballsy move it makes toward the end.

CoolioD1
^I'd put in Paranorman over Madagascar 3 since it got good reviews, and I'd say a smaller 2d animated film also gets in.
