Add yet another flop to Christopher Hemsworth's dazzling résumé.

Well at least he attempts non-franchise films I guess. His brother on the other hand seems well aware of how badly he'd flop outside the security of a franchise and only sticks to those.

I'll still see this (since I'll see anything Ron Howard directs) but yeah, it's a given that this is going cap off a mostly regrettable year for WB (they didn't finance Point Break so the losses shouldn't be that severe for them).

Point Break will be the second consecutive big budget flop for Alcon after Transcendence. They are hoping the Blade Runner sequel works really well at this point.

Here's a review; spoilered for length.

Hidden Content

I'd give a 7/10, or a B. Better than Unbroken, worse than Life of Pi.

When I read the book, I absolutley hated the first third of it. So boring, and the plot went nowhere. Wanted to change books for my english assignment but it was already too close to the deadline. But the second two thirds are fantastic, and so I can see the first bit of this movie being somewhat of a slog.

What did you think of the soundtrack? And (if the movie stays close to the book)

Spoiler

when they find the island, and when Cilian Murphy dies

Why didn't they release it this week in the US as they do in some European countries? Sure one week more before TFA would have been good...

Seeing this tomorrow night. Early German reviews are okay...

It's closer to Christmas and I'm sure they're expecting a spillover effect from SW.

Reviews are in. They're not good.

Bummer, this was going to need raves.

Lol, reviews don't mean much, for most movies.

BTW, where are they? RT still has just one review - FRESH.

Anyone know what the budget was for this? Or better yet, Chris Hemsworth's salary? I know he got $10M for Blackhat, which is just...yeesh. Assuming this bombs (and that seems inevitable at this point), he's definitely not getting those kind of paychecks outside of his Marvel deal anymore going forward.

I am assuming a 10M paycheck and a 100M budget.

If so, then yeah, no more big paychecks for you outside of Marvel, Mr. Hemsworth. When a movie ends up with a total less than the star's salary for it (as was the case for Blackhat), that's when you know said actor is being ridiculously overpaid (or has an amazing agent who was able to land the kind of deals that will no longer be occurring going forward).

If rumors are to be believed, he doesn't exactly get big paychecks at Marvel either. Blackhat, this movie and The Huntsman are his big paydays.

Then he must have a really good agent who was able to land those sweet deals, then. The fact Charlize had to battle to get the same salary as him in order to return for The Huntsman just goes to show how screwy the Hollywood system is.
