Wednesday (8/22/12) Numbers

Recommended Posts

Well with that wednesday number I don't see any possible way TE2 drops less than 55% this weekend. It would need like a huge 90%+ Friday increase to drop less. Combined with the dismal tracking for the new releases, this ought to be one of the worst weekends of the year so far at the BO.

The #1 movie this weekend could be as low as $11.5m or so. :o Think Like a Man was the lowest grossing #1 movie of the weekend of the year so far with $17m. Every other weekend this year has had at least 1 movie over $20m.

TDKR should pass TS3 today and pass TLK/DMC early-ish next week. ET, couple weeks or so. Shrek 2, hopefully before it hits dollar theaters.

Agreed. Just watch... that Indy IMAX release will somehow make the difference between passing and not passing Shrek 2.

Slow times ahead (although I don't think Exp2 drops *that* low yet, maybe closer to $13m).It feels like no one cares about anything coming out for awhile. Starting to think that dead week in September might rival Bangkok Dangerous' opening weekend in 2008.

^Heres hoping for Dredd to be a breakout hit. From everything I've read about it it sounds like everything Expendables 2 should've been. Hard R-rated action that will satisfy gorehounds with a coherent story.

What's H&R's budget?

$1.3 million (before P&A), according to Bradley Cooper at least. As long as Open Road didn't go crazy on the marketing costs -- and they clearly didn't -- the film should still be able to make its money back even in a worst case scenario. But Gitesh is right, that theater count was at least 500 theaters too wide for this kind of movie during this time of year. Edited by ShawnMR
